HELP: How to change the shift knob?
HELP: How to change the shift ****?
Does anyone know how to take off the stock shift ****? I know it's a great ****, however I wanted to replace it with a Nismo one. The thing just seems like it won't come off.....
Detailed explanation or link to possible site (with pics) would be great?
Much appreciated....

Re: HELP: How to change the shift ****?
Use some good terrycloth towels a pair of vice-grips, and a crescant wrench.
If your car is a 6MT, then put a towel around the base and vice grip it, TIGHT.
Then put a towel around the top and put the crescant wrench around the ****. You want to make sure that you do not let the transmission be what you are using as leverage to twist the **** off. If you do, you will destroy your transmission.
So use vice-grips to hold the shaft in place, then use one pair to take off the ****.

Thanks!
Yes it's a 6MT
Boy this sounds like a hassle, especially the possibilty of destroying the transmission....which does scare me!
So the bottom line is the shift **** is just twisted and tightened really hard compared to other cars (eg Honda's). I'm assuming the base (beige/brownish color piece) will pull right off once the **** is out?

Re: HELP: How to change the shift ****?
Yes. Just make absolutely sure that as you are trying to twist off the ****, the shaft does not move. Moreover, it should not move because the vice-grips are holding it in place. As long as you do not use the transmission as leverage to get the **** off the shaft, you are golden.
