Newbie: need help! :(

The good news: Just got my '05 AT today!

The bad news: When I got it home and I was driving around my neighborhood, I noticed something I didn't like. Between 20 and 30mph, there's a slight sound and strange "thumping" (not sure how to describe it). At first I thought maybe I just had a stone caught in the tread, but I'm pretty sure that's not it. That's the kind of sound/feel it is though .. like something is rubbing maybe as its rotating.

I'm no mechanic, not really sure what it is. Any ideas? I'm covered for any problems, but it would be nice to have some type of ideas when I call the dealer in the morning.

Hey man...
I think it might be the Axle Clicking or popping, that other drivers have been complaining about as well. It happens to me as well but not that often.

Is it something I should be concerned with and/or have looked at?

Any time I'm within that 20-30mph range I can feel it, whether I'm maintaining that speed, accelerating, or slowing down.

I'm taking it out to the service center around 1pm. I'll let you know what I find out.

Could be the tires, they make that sound at low speeds when going bald. These cars tend to wear tires out quick!

maybe a rim/tire out of round? either that or balance..........

I'm not sure if either would cause the thumping, but let us know what they find out.

if it's not the tires, check the ball bearing?

Turns out there is a drywall nail in one of my rear tires. They won't have the tires in until tomorrow, which means another hour drive out to the service center, but the good news is they're giving me 4 new tires at no cost!!!

A nail in the tire and I haven't even had the car for 24 hours. I'll take a nail over a serious problem any day though.

Wow ha, back when I had my Jeep Grand Cherokee, I was driving around a long, hard turn, kinda like a highway entrance. I bolt went into my tire and it blew, totally lost control for about 5 seconds, and almost flipped because I was sliding completely sideways.

Be glad you weren't in the car when it punctured your tire
