Paint Protectant

Quick question for those of you that go the paint protection from the dealer....

I stopped at the Infiniti dealer in Palm Beach to see what they had in stock and lo and behold a lovely black 6MT graced their showroom...at sticker +. What was more odd was that it had a used car 'as is' sticker in the window. Only had 150 miles on it....apparently the guy decided he needed a bigger car and brought it back. On to my question. The car was black and looked like it had been run through the car wash at the gas station about 200 times. The salesman tells me that it's the paint protectant and it helps keep the paint from chipping and fading. He showed me another brand new black Q with the paint protectant and it had the same spider cracks all over the paint.

What's up with this? My wifes black 6 year old volvo's paint looks better than a brand new car at the dealer.

Oh, and it's 'mandatory' that paint and interior protectant is put on all cars at Infiniti of Palm Beach...um...no thanks!

It wasn't mandatory where I bought (Roswell Infiniti of North Atlanta). I never buy stuff like paint or carpet protectants, etc. They're generaly just dealers gouging you for things like spray-on scotchgard or glorified wax jobs.

I hate it that dealers do this, but I think it should give you some indication of the level of honesty you can expect from them after the sale.

They're just making some money off of you. They claim that you will never have to wax your car, etc. When I bought my car, the finance manager tried to persuade me to buy it....I told him I actually enjoy waxing/polishing my car. He was "surprised" by that fact. ???? From what I have learned, they make a killing off it.

Don't buy that option!!
