Automatic or Manual Transmission
with manumatic mode, i can do all of the things you guys mentioned like going through the gears and downshifting to slow down. i redline almost everywhere and hardly ever use my brakes. 5at <3
Look at it this way...
if you plan on keeping your car for a long time, like most of us do i believe, since a lot of G owners are usually higher up in the age group, not saying we don't have plenty of young drivers as well; but a lot of people hang up their manual badges and settle for an auto later on anyways...
or if you're like me and a college student who has to drive a lot and deal with traffic...5AT is better unless you're really into manual, which since you're still trying to learn - so not.
but you can look at it the simple way, have the best of both worlds with the 5AT...mods the same, boost the same, only real major difference from you and the manual guys is that...you can switch to auto whenever you just want to chill and cruise ridin' smooth =]
let me tell you this first though, when i first got my car, i didn't know what to expect and i know that i don't want my *** to sit in traffic while changing gears all the time, and if i go on road trips i definitely don't want to sit in traffic of any sort in san francisco with an 6MT lol
i really wanted a manual at first, but i learned to enjoy more of having the "best of both worlds" lol

With the manumatic mode in an auto, you still can only go up or down one gear at a time(as opposed to using a real shifter and finding whatever gear you want), you don't get to use manually actuated clutch, and you don't rev match on your shifts. Plus.. if you always downshift with manumatic mode to brake in the auto tranny, that's going to put a significant amount of additional wear on the tranny in comparison to the wear that it would put on a manual(assuming the manual driver actually knows how to rev match properly).

To the OP, the 5AT does not or ever will feel like a 6MT in manual mode. If you like manuals, the 5AT is a poor substitute.
