Crap! Clutch noise...help

I drove about 150 miles on back home last night and drove through McDonalds (mmm) to get some food. When the car was sitting at idle, out of gear, clutch out I heard this noise like something was rubbing while spinning. I pushed the clutch in and it got quieter, put it in gear and it went fully away. Clutch out, not in gear, at idle the noise came back. Got my food (mmmm) and went home.. it did the same thing in my driveway..

Is this something to worry about?? Would a throwout bearing make the noise?? HELP!

X, did it sound like a diesel engine while idle...or as put by ProDrift, "a bag of marbles"? If so, I was told it's normal on the 6MT's.

2 G or NOT 2 G, there is no question!

Re: Crap! Clutch noise...help

on every car that i've hear that noise on, the main throwout bearing was the culprit...i've heard this noise alot more on my car, and when i press the clutch down, it goes away, which suggests the bearing, but i'm going to ask the service dept. about it when i service my car in 500 miles...

I get the same noise on mine. It's very faint though.

All you guys driving your car through driver thu. How can you force yourself to do it? I won't have that smell infected my new car smell. Nor the risk of a .... SPILL. Nor the risk of .. SCRAPING A RIM? Ahh the list goes on. Sorry I have a beater car, so I think I'm spoiled in babying my G. Maybe my G is spoiled too, in that regard.

Re: Crap! Clutch noise...help

It is a throw-out bearing. The funny part is that there is not a raplacement part for this. They replaced my tranny due to this noise & 3k later it's back. C5 corvettes are known for this as well, but the dealer says its normal. I will be making an appointment to bring my coupe back to the dealer to have it fixed AGAIN & again if necessary.

Re: Crap! Clutch noise...help

Every manual I've ever owned that made a scraping or metal sound with the clutch out was usually the throw out bearing.....a $10.00 part that cost you about $400 to replace....(if you don't do it yourself), mainly because while the trans is out I would replace the clutch and pressure plate....that was a bunch of years back so I can imagine the cost for that would be alot greater now.

The bearing tends to wear and usually an indicator of it is the dry bearing sound thats associated with it......
