Raced and M5

Re: Raced and M5
Audi_2_7t, is your car stock? What do you have done to it?
And in regards to the article comparing the 350z, rx-8 and s2000, the 350z was NOT the nismo 350z and the numbers posted are correct. I even recall reading in that magazine that the specific 350z they tested that produced those impressive numbers, was the fastest stock Z ever tested. Very impressive numbers.

The M5 is an absolute beast of a car and there is no way a G would win. Granted there were 5 people in the M5, I think it would still definitely pull away. You can't compare 400hp to 280hp, even if the M5 does weigh like 600lbs more or whatever.
The guy probably just didn't even downshift. Think about it, if he has a full car, he's not going to go all out and fully race another vehicle and endanger his friends. The guy was probably racing the G in 5th or 6th while having a convo with the other 4 people in his car while listening to the radio.
And I don't think it's an issue of the driver's skills. Anybody who owns an M5 KNOWS how to drive...you don't get an M5 unless you really know cars and performance and can appreciate what the M5 offers. Most people don't even know what an M5 is!

Re: Raced and M5
did you people really race an m5...m5 is a beast but the numbers are almost identical to a m3 which has 333 hp compared to m5's 400 hp....again the m3 weighs approx 3500 lbs compared to the m5's 4000 lbs.....weight doesn't matter? im not an expert, but if you say 600-800 lbs is not going to slow an m5 down...you dont really know much either...
also the guy didn't say he beat the m5....he said he was able to hang with him..

Weight does matter, but so does horsepower. Are you not aware that the M5 has 394hp and the G35C has 280hp? That is a HUGE difference, even considering the weight. And the M3 and the M5 have the same 0-60, but the M5 has a faster quarter mile. Nowadays, lots of cars are boasting mad horsepower, and with such short gears (only need 1st and 2nd to get to 60mph in most sports cars), 0-60 times for all different cars are not so far different. It's really after 60mph, when you're in those longer (harder to turn) gears do you see the differences in straight-line acceleration.

Re: Raced and M5
Yeah, I know, after I typed my last post and read it, I felt stupid. My post made it look like weight wasn't that important. I do know that weight is extremely important and that every pound counts. ANd in fact, I hate it when my G is full (4 people in it) because I easily notice how much it slows it down. But one time I had a full car, I was still able to take a 265hp 2004 Maxima (it was only the driver in the car). So I think that a 400hp M5 with a full car can still out-accelerate a 280hp single-occupant G35C, assuming both drivers are driving their cars with 100% efficiency.

Re: Raced and M5
im not trying to argue, because like i mentioned i dont know if this guy is even telling the truth, or maybe the m5 driver did race him, but not all the way....but look at it this way....
m5 a 394 hp car is only as fast as a 333 hp m3, because of 500 lb difference....add another 600 lbs.....wouldn't it make sense that the m5 would not be that much faster than a 280 hp car after this?
