Re: Raced and M5
You are absolutely correct. Although, we must also consider that the numbers are so close, even in the upper ranges, that unless the driver's are both perfect, it would be pretty much the same.
With that being said, BMW has a history of having lower hp cars that are very efficient in their power delivery to the wheels. The M5 is obviously no exception. That thing is a beast!

True! With the 330Ci the numbers are so close even up high, even though the G has the edge in that range, it would still depend on the drivers.
Yeah, I agree with you, the M5's a different story altogether -- it pretty much rules in the domain of sport sedans. Even the big AMG Benzes respect that mighty beast!

Re: Raced and M5
If you are in a stock G35 and beat a M5, the driver of the M% was doing something very wrong. I have gone up against an M5 and a Cobra(Both 2003 I think) and lost badly. Starting from a dead stop, both spanked me from the get go. I had multiple trials against both cars because we raced again at each red light we hit. I do not know if the other cars were stock.

Re: Raced and M5
Yeah this thread is definitely funny! My wife has an M5 and its not even in the same category. Even a turboed G35 won't beat it, it will hang but it won't beat. If the guy down shifted to third on you, you would know, especially if the Traction control is off, he would have gotten a little sideways before the car hooks up.

Re: Raced and M5
Yeah, the M5 is a fast car--a work of art.
I haven't seen any timeslips for a supercharged or TT G35 other than my own--but I can tell you that there are several well-documented times for 350Zs with forced induction in the mid-to-low 12s. As much as some might not like to hear it, there is a preponderance of evidence to suggest that the 350z runs markedly faster than the G35 with the same HP.
However, I personally have run a 13.2 in my supercharged G35 sedan on a very hot and humid night, even missing 3rd gear and banging off the rev limiter for almost a second. I guaranfreakingtee you I'll break into the 12s as soon as the track is open on a cool night. If you want me to shut up until that happens, fine.
