Manual Shift Mode

I feel stupid asking this question...I posted a similar thread, but didnt really understand it.

I want to use the manual mode in my automatic, but am unsure about how to use it correctly. Ive never driven a manual before, so bear with me please. I was just wondering if someone could explain how to use it. I cant find it in the owners book.

Do you let of the gas to shift up? When do you shift up and down? Do you want to be in fifth gear as much as possible? Sometimes when I shift down, the RPMs rev up...am I downshifting early?

Thanks in advance for the help!

you drive it the same way as an automatic normally but you decide when to shift, and naturally when you shift into a lower gear your revs are going to come up. just shift when u feel comfortable but dont over-rev it

just shift up or down depending on what you want. if you want to save gas shift early at lower rps, for pure speed shift high. dont worry about it, its still an automatic and unless you are like slamming redline all day it will take care of everything else. and no when you downshift you have to bump up the revs because the engine spins faster in lower gears. its just the car doing the work for you when us 6mt guys have to do it ourselves

if you have a later model g35, then it has rev-matching, where the car revs the engine to the appropriate RPM to coincide with your downshift.

i found the shift gear responsiveness of the AT is manual mode a bit slow. it deos not act immediately to gear changes like manual , overall its a AT triptronic, but still disappointed with the manual shift mode's performance.

I found exactly the same. I am a big fan of Manual cars, and in fact where I come from, Hungary, most everyone has a Manual. However, I had to get used to the Automatic and I did, but I was kind of wishing the Manu-matic would give me some Manual feeling at least. It however does not even get close to what Manual shifting is.

This is still automatic, with some manual indication that "as soon as you feel like it, please shift"

Ben

Ha! I'm in the same boat. I've got my 06 coupe for 8 months now, can't figure out when to shift up and when to shift down, and how much on the gas pedal am I suppose to step on before shift to another gear. So basically I've only tried manual shift once.

basically shift to higher gear at 6500rpm,and shift down under 3000rpm.
if you forget to shift down it'll do it for you when you do a near or complete stop it'll go back to 1st gear.

i depends are you just using your manual mode for driving spiritedly or all the time?

if you just want spirited shift up at high rps and downshift when you are low rps and want more power

if you use it all the time you can shift up at like 2.5k - 3k to save gas

I have an 06 with rev matching. It doesn't matter if you are flooring it on an upshift as long as you shift up before 7000 rpms. 6500 would be ideal. No gas on a down shift. You can take your foot off of the gas during an upshift, but I noticed it shifts hard that way and it's not a smooth transition. Hope this helps.
