Hopefully some one on here can give me some advice. I have an 04 Coupe. Recently during the Scorching Texas summer I have noticed that my A/C is not cooling as well as it should be in my opinion. When I am driving on the freeway or somewhere where I have a stretch and I do not have to stop it seems to work better, but still not how I would like for it to or how I remember it being other summers. When I have to stop and a bunch or red lights etc, it seems like when idling it puts out no cool air at all.
I just had a local tech check it out and they said that I only had .5lbs of freon and I had them recharge it back to the 2 lbs that they said our cars needed or usually carried. It is now a week later and it feels like it did before I took it in to have it looked at.

Is it just that the summer is too hot, or do you think my compressor might be going bad or just stopping when at idle? Any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else on here?

 

Your AC might have a leak which causes the gas to sneak out. Between now and the day when the tech refilled your freon, was the AC any better?

Also check if at max blow, the fan still produces the same airflow as it used to or not. I just had my AC serviced and they said the in-cabin micro filter was clogged, which caused the air to struggle getting through to the cabin, and this reduced the effectiveness. As soon as that was replaced, the air was blowing in like it should with a very heavy (windy) blow, and now its back to normal.

It seemed to have felt better, but that might have been just my mind playing tricks on me because they charged my freon back up. I have not replaced the in cabin filter yet, but it feels like it is blowing just as hard as it always has.

My temperature gauge is also the same place that it always is.

 

The in-cabin micro filter is a good thing to replace, as its filtering the air you get inside the car. If thats dirty, you will also inhale dirty air. However, for me it was so clogged up, that it reduced the air-flow, which also reduced the cool feel of the AC. In your case, if it still blows hard, might not be the case.

search for the in cabin filter DIY on this forum... give it a try, perhaps that will help... but like bence said, it sounds like a gas leak... good luck

 

It does sound like a gas leak. If you're under warrenty, get it checked out again.

You should make sure that you inspect the car inside and out before you drop off your car and before you leave the facility. Some dealerships do damage your car and try to shift the responsibility.

Sounds like a gas leak. Buy a probe thermometer that can sit in one of the AC vents. (http://www.simplysolutionsinc.com/Th...ermometer.html)

That way you can keep a baseline of things.

 

You can turn recirculation off and see if the filter is causing it or not. Usually recirc will get colder than taking incoming air... but if it is clogged it'll help. In a perfect world, the system should NEVER need to be recharged, so you do have a leak somewhere.
Something else I've found with my car, if I leave it parked outside in the day cooking in the AZ sun (115+) it seems like the A/C never gets cold enough, ever. Even on a 5+ hour drive. However, when I leave it in the garage, it seems to freeze me out of the car. Something to consider.

 

it sounds like a leak of freon......if your under warranty take it to the dealer.... if not u can find a smaller AC shop.......... AC repairs require extra equipment to properly evacuate and recharge the system properly to remove any moisture from the system being open from the repair...
