The day has finally come!!!

Hey everyone,

Finally my g dreams have been answered. Im pickin up my 04 6MT coupe today at 2pm. I found a pretty insane deal on one:

26k miles
Premium package
Sport package
Aero package
Brembos

$18,000.00

Had a couple questions for everyone. Basically as soon as i get the keys and title in my hand i'm going to order some mods, but i need some opinions on cold air and other such items:

For exhaust im undecided but that wont be an issue

What cold air intake do most of the people here recommend????? I test drove an 03 with a Pop charger and z tube and i really liked that but i dont know if theres anything better out there.

Cobb tuning accessport handheld tuner. This looks like a good product. Any experience anyone?

And probably a kinetix upper plenum manifold replacement. Anyone think i need the spacer too or is the manifold a cure all for that?

Does anyone recommend any other basic mods other than pulleys to squeeze some more power out of the VQ35 before i go TT in a year?

Thanks for any help you can offer,
Cory

I'd say dont mod it out the box...you dont even know where you are NOW, as far as performance. I'd go for looks first. Then when you get use to the power and start to yearn for more, do the performance mods. Its not a civic, lol so there's really no need to start building right away. It's not exacty a slow car

Unfortunately my friends all drive modded out cars, S2000, Evo 8, STi, 545, M5, etc etc. To keep up i need some extra juice, im going to have a solid 2 or 3 weeks to drive the car before i get anything installed as well. I just want to be ready as soon as the urge comes.

congratulations on your purchase. I think you should really do your research before you start ordering parts for you car. That way you dont get stuck with something you dont like. Also i noticed your located in VA. You should check out the NGC website if you havent done so yet. it consists of the D.M.V.

with 26k, you might want to do maintenance before mods.
tranny and diff fluid change and all the mods you mentioned do not have a huge affect on a G35, more then anything just learn to drive well and shift fast.

o yea of course

thats the first thing im doin, engine oil, tranny fluid, and gear oil - all synthetic

i never trust other people to take good care of a car, got to have that peice of mind for yourself that you've taken care of everything and you know how old that oil is

Congrats on the G!

Here's my recommendations on your inquiry list of mods:

- No to the pop-charger! In hot weather they let in hot air and the cars will stall. Get a Z-tube from a 350Z and put a K&N in the factory airbox. It works great.

- I don't have any experience with the Cobb tuning.

- No to the Kinetix. Just get a Motordyne spacer and be done with it.

Honestly, any of these mods will deliver low hp & tq increases when compared to FI....if you are going TT next year, I'd save my $$ for that.

^ I've heard this about the pop-charger but not consistenly enough to conclude. But I did go with a Z-tube and drop in K&N. I have the pop charger too just havent decided on it yet.

I agree that if you are going TT next year, do not get an exhaust or anything that has to do with air flow (except Z-tube) until you put on the turbo. A lot of the mods for the NA cars arent for forced Induction. And whether you have a turbo or not should decide which exhaust to put on.

I'd say mod cosmetics NOW and build the performance to be a Twin Turbo G35 and let everything that you buy coincide with that.

That avoids the whole, buy this and that now, take them off next year and sell em for less because now you have a toorbo (turbo).

Judging from the time you're picking it up now....!

Welcome and congratulations on your find. You have so many options on what
to do first but you need to gain knowledge on what's right/correct. Attend
G35/Z car meets to get some idea of what you like. Check our Gallery section
for what we've modded on our cars. You'll have numerous questions, always
do a Search First before posting questions. You don't want to get
and you will if you ask a question that's been answered a zillion times.
Good Luck....Gary
