Are you sure there was not a crack or something first? I just went through a hail storm and watched my poor baby get nailed several times. I watched 3 distinct times that a large ( quarter size ) piece of hail nailed the back window. Can't even tell. Not a nick or scratch. Sounds like the glass was weak?

Hold on a minute...You said branches being torn down, Torn down by who? If a tree company or the person that owns the property did this then they should be paying for your window...end of story!
Where are you located? I work at a glass company and I can tell you that the back window will run you anywhere from $350 to $600 depending on you location.
The guy that said $200 because of the defrost system is wrong...that does not effect the price. It costs more because it is tempered glass and then once you factor in antenna wires and electronics and solar absorbing tint on higher end cars the price will go up...But the G has none of those just a rear defrost system.
My advice is use your ins. that is why you pay for it for when **** like this happens...If you have anymore questions about the process just PM me and I will be glad to explain it to you....GL

Tempered glass does not crack...it justs explodes!
As far as the hail goes...it is just one of those weird things that you can't explain...The location of where it hit will come into play tempered glass will break so easily if it is hit on the edge or close to the edge.
I've hit an old tempered window that was not in a car yet with a 23oz. dead blow hammer and nothing happened and then I tapped the edge and it just exploded.

A nut ? like planters penuts ? ... serious? maybe its from something else and when you look down you seen the Acorn.
unless you where staring at the rear windsheild at the same second the "acorn" fell on it, is the only way to be sure this.... onomoly took place.
