K40 Radar Install- Anyone have info?

I am about to have this installed, and I have to choose between mounting the display around the vdc button where I can see it thru the steer. wheel, or up in the sunglass holder; I would need to remove it, I prefer it there because it's inches from my head.

Any ideas? Save me some hassle?

My K40 is installed right below the temperature console. You know, the screen that shows you the N S E W, etc. It fits in there nicely. The K40 is very reliable and sound cool when it goes off.

Oh , I have NAV... Forgot to mention that means no cubbie hole. Below my ac I have CD and the mode buttons...

My K40 has the display unit, not the little leds LED....

I only have a compass in my NAV display I believe.. not in my mirror either-

Display unit? I thought the K40 is mounted with only the warning lights. I did not know that a unit was involved. Even if you do have the Navi, 3 small wholes are drilled into the dash right below the "temp" console. That way, if pulled over by police, they won't notice anything. If you have pictures..post them.

Yeah, but if he happens to get pulled over, the police can take his unit.

Got the K40 for little money, just need to pay 4 authorized install. I want V1, or 8500

Some K40 units have a sensitivity meter that gets installed in hidden places such as ashtrays...

Man back in the day (8 yrs ago), K40 was cutting edge for a detector. The Escort SR7 is an awesom piece , you should consider it. Unless you got the K40 for free I wouldnt install it, unless you like the sounds of chirpy birds ALL the time.
I rode with a friend this weekend that has a Tahoe with the undetectable and all it did was false and make these annoying ticking sounds.
Even if you got it for free the install cost should be at least $400 or more (thats what we charged at my store 6yrs ago).
I would check the background of whomever is going to install it, if put in the right way it takes a lot of disassembly.

Re: K40 Radar Install- Anyone have info?

Just got it installed, it's located between the sunglass holder and the windshield, clear of the mirror. So far I like it a lot. It will take some time to get accustomed to the chirps, but I love the clean install as opposed to suction cup detectors. I could've had 3 seperate V1 detectors for the investment I made, but now I finally have a K40.

Having it in my sightline, and close to the ears is what I need when blasting tunes.

Went through my 1st laser trap- all the lites came on and went nuts, I had to really reset it miles later to get it to shut up. That laser alert did a real "Merlin" on my K40. I am referring to Top Gun when the F15s got spooked by some MiGs. haha

Totally agree, the VDC and trunk opener are not ergonomical at all. With NAV, I had no real compartments, and the sunglass holder works best only as a shield to disguise the K40. It's inches from my head, a foot or so, I am 5 4 inn height, so my seats way up.

Noisy akert sounds are unusual compared to standard detectors, but I won't mind when I evade laser traps.

To be clear, my K40 is the display type, that I have mounted behind the holder. It's inches from the windshield, and it clears the holder, esp when I put the holder down to disguise the head unit when I am parked, or if the fuzz is behind me at night. My rear tints are so dark that it's hard to tell that even the NAV screen is present.
