5AT lag at launch???
5AT lag at launch???
hey,
I've tried flooring from a stop several times and everytime the car does accelerate right away, instead there is maybe a 1-2 sec lag where the rpm and speed goes up really slowly....is it supposed to be like this? I drove a 99' maxima and that car shot like a rocket with no lag...i dun understand why the g35 does this...do 6MT's accelerate right away?

Re: 5AT lag at launch???
Good point, I have replied to a bunch of these threads as my 5AT also feels like it needs to build up momentum, kinda like a supercharger i..e. MB SLK Kompressor type car.
Makes me want to skip track nights with this car.

Re: 5AT lag at launch???
I haven't noticed any problems in launching my car. I just put in a Grounding Kit for the car and now the manual mode is awesome. I actually found myself driving home one day using it all the way.
I have a 2004 5AT.

Re: 5AT lag at launch???
I have no grounding kit, and I launch so well my head snaps. I just take my foot off the brake, then slam the accelerator pedal and off I go. VDC on, full auto mode and wham, I go.
Are you launching from idle or are you revving while you hold the brake down?

Re: 5AT lag at launch???
In my 2003.5 sedan... I noticed the same lag. BUT I think it is due to the adaptive nature of the tranny and ECU... Have you tried resetting it lately? I think it will solve alot of the lag issue.
Maybe the car recognizes that you have started slowly from lights in the past x,000 miles and it tries to maintain consistency ??

Re: 5AT lag at launch???
Did you have the VDC off? If flooring it produces the slightest bit of wheelspin, VDC will reduce power and kill your launch.

Re: 5AT lag at launch???
I've tried both with the VDC off and on...It really didn't make a difference...Is it really true that the ECU will adapt to the driving style? Becuz I did drive very carefully until the break-in period, and I still dont accelerate all the time...that really sucks...that means even if i reset the ecu and if i dont drive aggressivley all the time, it will go back to the way it is now?
Hey how do you reset the ECU? any negative with doing so?
can you install grounding kits on your own? even if i have no experience with the mechancis?
thanks

Re: 5AT lag at launch???
Your TCU adapts to your driving style by altering the shift points. It bases them on the last 50 miles/50 minutes according to a couple of Nissan techs. At wide open throttle it ignores anything it's learned. Just start driving crazy and it will re-learn very shortly. Or you can do an ECU reset and reprogram all your radio stations again.

Re: 5AT lag at launch???
Doesn't the crappy lag from 1-3ish rpms have to do with low end torque? God knows we have plenty up top....A friend of mine got Stillen exhuast on his Z installed...thats supposed to raise the low end torque...i drove it...and the low end picks up much better than ours....=/

Re: 5AT lag at launch???
I would leave the VDC on especially if your turning into traffic. I tried this without the VDC and I was reminded of how my camaro would act and that was the back end started to do a nice slide. If your at a light I usually just punch it and it goes really quickly. I have tried the brake and reviving the engine to about 2000 rpm and it will push me back a little. The manual mode is fun by I think Catatafish was right in another post and that was the automatic does a better job then me in shifting.
Re: 5AT lag at launch???
Just take off the cover to your battery, unscrew the negative connector to the battery (the one on the left) and leave it there for like 12 hours or so. Then replug. That's it.
Re: 5AT lag at launch???
I don't get the lag. I get an instant push (normally a chirp of the tires) then it levels off, then another push at @ 3500
