Dealor was joking or??? About Install OEM Navi/GPS
Hi everybody:
My friend and his wife went to Tustin Infiniti today to check out the G35 Sedan. I told them before that the G Coupe is a hot car here in LA area, so I had to reserve a car one month earlier in order to avoid wait time when I purchase my G this summer.
They gave me a call in the early morning at the dealorship and told me that they saw tons of G Coupes there. So I was telling them "of course, but if you want a specific color with full package (navi, premium, wheel, spoiler) loaded, they might not have it". Then they went to ask the dealor and this dealor was telling them that Navi can be installed at the dealorship, so is spoiler...
I went to a couple dealorships few months ago and they all told me that spoiler and navi are only installed in Japan before the cars are shipped. Once its here, nothing can be added.... Now I am confused... Is that Tustin dealor ignorant or I was given wrong information??
Because my reserving the G Coupe would be totally meaningless if Navi and spoiler can be added seperately... Besides, this will ruin my reputation of being trustworthy in front of my friend and his wife....
And by the way, I reserved a car at Riverside, which told me that they do not bargain besides MSRP... Should I take it and swallow that crap? Or should I go else where? I have heard people getting 1000~1500 off MSRP these days since the 05 is coming out this fall.....
Any info would be appreciated... peace* =)

Not too many people are super-happy with the dealer-installed spoilers. The 4th brakelight, bad seals, etc.
As for Navi... yeah, it can be installed later, BUT it's going to cost someone about $5-6k. If the dealer spends the time/money procuring the parts and doing the install, you can bet they're going to take it out on the customer somehow.

i bought my car from Tustin Infiniti...
they put the factory spoiler on (free might i add) with the underbody air diffusers and i have no problem (except i can hear metal shavings in the trunk when i open and close it)... 4th brake light was unplugged.
i never knew you can put navi on aftermarket!?!? i am gonna look into this!, but i dont think its worth $4-5k... thats proposterous

one last bit: its ALWAYS better to get equipment installed from the factory... if you can wait a month or so, its worth it! plus, if oyu get a spoiler installed from the factory, it wont come with the useless 4th brake light, like mines... (im thinking of putting a blue light in the 4th brake light, wired to a toggle switch so that i can turn it on so people can see that im cool! hehe... rice or nice? you decide!)

OK,
Since I got questioned alot about adding OEM navi after the fact - I did quite a bit of research... You would be surprised how many people regret not getting navi (especially when they heard you can convert it for video)...
The cost of the parts themselves is close to $6000 alone. Add in crazy labor hours and your basically in a different zone. The factory navi system runs through a completely different BCM harness, which is routed from the front to the back of the car throughout. Cars which were to have navi installed at the factory, were given a completely different set of harnesses, than those cars who were not to have it.
Changing this harness would consist of probably stripping the car to it's barebones and working yourself back up. I have stripped and gutted my old Mustang, and it is quite a job to do. Factor in all the latest sensors and connectors - and it would be hours and hours to get this job done.

Hey be careful at Tustin...I bought my car there then after signing the paperwork they called me the next day and told me they sold it to someone else.
AFTER I SPENT 3 HOURS SITTING THERE WAITING, THEN SIGNED THE PAPERWORK.
They can go to hell.

I know when I was looking around for my Coupe, my closest dealership said they could install the navigation system for me but it wouldn't be as clean as if it came from the factory, and that it would be expensive. So, this other dealership found exactly the car I was looking for coming in (Black on Black, 6MT Coupe Leather, Premium and DVD Nav) and I took that. You're always better off ordering what you want from the factory rather than having somebody else add it on later.

Re: Dealor was joking or??? About Install OEM Navi/GPS
Guys, thanks for your reply.
I do think that the navi is much better when it comes with factory install... I think I will wait for another month and shop around (Hopefully I can get the car I want at Costa Mesa or Mission Viejo, otherwise I will need to pay MSRP at Riverside.. that sux)
Regarding Tustin Infiniti... I have heard some bad experiences from many G owners... That is one of the reasons that I made this long post... Now I know that I need to get away from Tustin Infiniti.. Especially after my friend told me that that Tustin Infiniti dealor did not even know the difference between G35X and G35.... dang, he should get fired like immediately for being stupid!!!!
Are G Coupes still hot these days? I have seen more and more Gs on the street now.. but also heard more and more people paying 700~1500 off MSRP... I better check out at the dealorship myself to see the supply and demand =)

Re: Dealor was joking or??? About Install OEM Navi/GPS
I got my coupe in Feburary with all the trimmings and it took about 2 weeks to get it shipped to Redwood City Infiniti (bay area). I tried for below MSRP pricing for 2 days at a couple of dealership but no can do. What I ended up doing was to have them add the extended warranty and 3 yr exterior detailing and taxes into the total MSRP pricing and came out low $40k. Hope this helps.
