Damn these squeeks and rattles!

Enough already! This stuffs about to drive me crazy................
I know the weather/temp around N.J. has been unstable, (one day its 50 and no humidity, the next its 80 and high humidity) but these little annoying squeeks and rattles are getting the best of me........

First it was either the pass side door pillar or glove box rattle, then that went away and now its the sunroof squeeking for the first time..........then I hear a knock sound in the back rear deck....

I know all cars make their little annoying noises from time to time. But this car just shifts the noises from place to place.......

I've only gone thru three seasons with this car so far, and each has its own little sound to annoy the $hit out of me.....thank god for loud radios....and that doesn't sound too good cranked up.....

Not to mention all the friggin tree pollen and seed pods deposited on my car on a daily basis.......and I bitched about winter..........

so soooorrrry, just had to vent.......I'll get over it and move on with my life and love........the G

GR8T, most of those have TSB on them. They fixed the back pillar and sunroof squeaking on my last visit...good luck.

GR8T, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT, tell the dealership you are aware of the TSB on this. I made the mistake and the dealership was like, "are you sure you're not just stating what you've read on TSB's and wasting our time...

Re: Damn these squeeks and rattles!

well, i went 3 times to southbay infiniti in torrance for the rattle at the pass. rear parcel shelf. the first time, i didnt know about the tsb and didn't mention tsb to them. it was audible at that time but they thought it was coming from somewhere else. so i had to bring it again, mentioned the tsb. but unfortunately, it comes and goes and it was kinda faint the time they tested it. and they wont do anything unless they can confirm the noise/rattle. then brought it for the 3rd time. same thing, so nothing was done, they said they cant find anything when they open the shelf. i kept telling them that it's more audible on freeway (60+ mph) and rear tire hitting the freeway lane markers. they tested it w/o me on the freeway day before so i suggested that i ride w/ them but i was told that no one was available to go w/ me on the freeway, kinda far from dealership. the guy, tom, thought i was just making a big deal of something they cant hear and that im making it hard for them. told me to bring my coupe to other dealership. pissed me off big time. i sent a complaint to infiniti about him! now, the rear shelf rattle is gone, maybe because from opening and closing it 2 times, fixing itself. but now there are developing rattles on the pass door, and behind stereo panel... rattles... my biggest complaint! i've sent infiniti lots of comments on that issure. had to vent.. sorry, i hear the other guys w/ the same problem.

Re: Damn these squeeks and rattles!

Sounds like your dealership is about as 'good' as mine. Either they reproduce and can't fix or they don't reproduce and don't do a damn thing. I got so fed up that I took a tech on a test run to replicate. The tech says "oh, I hear them." So I leave the car overnight, get a call the next day to come pick the car up. I get there and ask them if they were able to get the rattles. They no, they couldn't reproduce them again so they didn't do a thing. I talked to the service manager and he tells me that they don't have a 'fighting chance' unless they can reproduce immediately before working on it.

I haven't been to the dealer for about a year now and have taken the task of fixing the rattles myself. The only reason I'll go is if my tranny start to grind or something else major.

Sorry, had to vent.

Yeah, my experience there wasn't a pleasant one either. I went in with a series of issues I wanted resolved they treated me like I was a bother! I told the guy, "you sure didn't treat me this way when I was buying the car!" Anyway, finally, I was able to recreate some of the issues on the fly and went in and they are now taking care of me, reluctantly, I'm sure. BTW, I tried to get them to sponsor an event, like Perf Nissan did, but they don't seem too interested.

Re: Damn these squeeks and rattles!

Has anybody figured out how to eliminate that damn squeak in the sunrooff?!............it general happens when I go over bumps, or twist the chassis,...........my sanity is slipping trying to fix it, figured I would be better off chating in these forums rather than going to the dealer. Help - anyone?

Re: Damn these squeeks and rattles!

are you talking more of a squeeky type rattle or a big popping noise? I took care of the squeeky stuff with some gummi pflege (stuff you put around the rubber seal around the glass) but when I go into a driveway, I get a loud pop coming from the area right over my head.

Re: Damn these squeeks and rattles!

hey in May 17th issue of Business Week, there is a article titled: NISSAN: THE SQUEAKS GET LOUDER

"Scott Mount's Nissan Armada gives him a headache-literally. Soon after buying the SUV in December, the Orange County restaurant manager began experiencing skull-jarring vibrations from the roof. What's worse, the brakes squealed, and clicks emanated from the rear."

.....

"What's more, Ghosn was seeking to roll out the new models while demanding price concessions from suppliers. As a result, Nissan often used cheaper materials at the expense of manufacturing precision. One, consultant, who took apart a Titan to study it for a rival, says that certain internal parts aren't made to fit together as precisely as a Toyota and others. That forced assembly line workers at Canton to find ways of fitting the pieces snugly together-hardly ideal since many of them had never worked at a car plant before."

.....

This article is referring to Nissan Armada, Titans, and Quest minivans that were manufactured at a plant in the US, but I guess they do the same thing at the G35 plants.

Re: Damn these squeeks and rattles!

I used to own a maxima (everyone always complained about the squeeks) and the solution on the forums was to turn up the stereo.

If you want to feel better just get in a friend's Honda/Acura. They use recycled plastic in a lot of their parts, which is great, but unfortunately they expand and contract a lot more (& faster).

Re: Damn these squeeks and rattles!

Gthirtyfly, the roof squeak is the worst, in my coupe at least. I can lightly push up on the roof and hear the SOB crackle like it's filled with those shipping peanuts they use for packaging? That's not right, and it's readily reproducable. Taking it in w/in a week. let you know how it goes.

Re: Damn these squeeks and rattles!

Alright, I've calmed down some since I first posted......
I hate the fact that this car has so many annoying little squeaks and rattles, and I have no problem going to the dealership by me and have them take a look at them. But it has been my past experience with these "hit and Miss" noises that never surface the day your at the dealer, only to return as soon as you leave the place......I understand the dealers try hard to comply with our requests, but I can't justify them tearing my car apart to find a noise they say doesn't exist. I think I would rather just try to hunt these BA$tards down myself and see if I can fix them by any means possible.......

Every noise in this car is never consistent.....in either occurance nor in sound.....its like this car is haunted........but when I drove home tonight, not a chirp or squeak........and the sound of the muffler/engine ringing in my ears.....well I just smiled my little A$$ off and for the moment forgot all about the little nuisances that come and go......

Re: Damn these squeeks and rattles!

I know G35 is a great car... performance and styling! But after experiencing this problem, would you buy it or do it all over again? Did it change your perception on Infiniti cars and their quality? I've sent comments to Infiniti just so they are aware of those problems and how much it affects the consumers and hopefully for them to improve their cars. Anyone did the same? Comments?
