Just purchased my G35 coupe...few questions!!!!

Thanks to all the advice I received on this forum I finally purchased my 2004 G35 Coupe last night. The car is a 2004 model, 48k miles, 18" tires, diamond graphite, with black interior, sports package. Carfax shows that the car was a lease vehicle. Purchase price was 20,800............do you guys think this is a decent deal? KBB value on the car was like 22k. I pruchased it through the dealership's internet dept.

Few questions.....

1. The lower front end, bumper has chips and small scratches, do you guys recommend I have 3M film installed on the front end to prevent further chipping? Or, should I just leave it as is being how it's already chipped?
If I decide in the future to re-paint the front end bumper how much would it more or less cost? Also, how much does 3M cost for the front end bumper?

2. The only other issue with the car is that the light on the passenger Seat Warmer button isn't illuminated when driving at night (it does illuminate when the button is pushed and turned "ON", but when in the "Off" position no light is on) How can this be fixed?

3. What do you guys recommend to use on the leather seats to clean and treat them? How often?

4. What products are good to use on the interior dash (e.g. Armor all..?)?

5. Any carwashing tips? What do I avoid in order to prevent damage/scratches/swirls to the paint?

6. What oil do you recommend...synthetic? brand?

Being how the car has 48k miles, what type of service (aside from oil changes) should I be sure to do on the car?
I'm a noob so I do apologize for all the questions, and apologize if any of them are dumb in nature.

Any other tips you guys can think of would be greatly appreciated.
Feels great to finally have a G of my own!!!

Thanks guys!!!!

Congrats on the new-to-you car. You will find lots of info on all the above subjects using Search, most of them in the Detailing section. Happy hunting and enjoy the coupe.

The price is OK... I essentially have the same car, same year, same mileage (is yours 6MT?). My KBB private party is something like $18,700.

1 - I'd leave it how it is. A front bumper repaint would probably be in the neighborhood of $350. Not sure how much the 3M costs.

2 - Does the driver's side button illuminate when not "on"? I can't remember. No idea how to fix this.

3 - Search

4 - Search

5 - Search

6 - Search (a lot a lot a lot of discussion about this)

Infiniti has a maintenance schedule which, if you stick to, should ensure that the car will be in great shape for years to come. Many of the maintenance items they recommend doing at the dealer (filters, fluids and such) can be done on your own or at another shop for a fraction of the cost.

Congrats on your purchase!

Leave it as is. Clear Bra costs a lot and the damage is already done. If you get it repainted someday, then you can get a Clear-Bra.

I wouldn't even waste any time with this... It's not important.

Lexol... no questions asked. Do it like once every other month or every 3 months.

I don't use anything on my interior plastics.. I just keep them clean by whiping them down a lot with a microfiber towel and trying to use a sun-shade when it's really hot out.

Car washing is simple. Don't overthink it. Just use clean water and a clean, soft car wash mit. Never drop it on the ground and make sure you store it clean(not dirty). Replace it at the first signs of wear with a new one. Make sure you dry your car off and don't let it air dry or you'll get spots. Personally, I like Meguiars car wash soap... but there's not much difference between them. Don't use Dish soap though. You should also wax your car.. use Meguiars NXT Tech wax and some microfiber wax applicator pads and buff it out by hand using a bunch of microfiber towels(can buy a 12-pack at wal-mart for like $5). Also wax your rims and the outside of your car windows, and the exhaust tips. Since you just got the car, you should also wax the inside of your door jambs and around the inside edges of your trunk when it's open(Make sure you clean out the drain holes first, since they'll probably be full of dirt and plugged up). Also wax the inside of the engine bay metals, just so that you know you're starting off right. Wash the inside windows with Stoners glass cleaner(avoid Windex, it has ammonia in it!).

German Castrol 0W-30(only weight it comes in).. you can buy it pretty much only at Auto Zone, and use either a Purolator Pure one oversized filter or a Mobil 1 M1-110 oversized filter.

Change your brake fluid, tranny and differential fluid and flush the coolant. You could also run a can of fuel injector cleaner through a full tank of gas.. but that probably won't do too much(won't hurt either). Make sure your battery terminals are clean too... and lube up all your door hinges and latches with white lithium grease. Now.. very importantly.. lube up your hood hinges... these are starting to be known as a problem area on G35's and people do a lot of damage to their cars when they seize up. Just a warning.. they can be hard to get at to lube up. I'd recommend buying a can of white lithium grease at an auto parts store and bridging together 2 of those little straw pieces that they come with by using a small portion of rubber hose. This will allow you to make a flexible hose to spray the stuff onto the hidden portion of the hood hinges where it really needs to be.

Good luck with your car and enjoy!

Don't put anything on your interior other than a moist towel. Front chips are common, and unless your repaint your front bumper, it's silly to put a clear bra on that will only show the chips anyway. I've just started hearing of a product dealers are using instead of clear bras call armorcoat which can be used over the newly repainted bumper. It's a clear coat paint that is supposely resistant to chipping. I don't have any further info on it. Good luck.

My advice is buy a new bumper when the urge comes. Aftermarket bumpers look great on our cars. Don't waste money on protection for an already destroyed bumper.
