Is the seat belt a real problem for tall people? I don't notice much discomfort. But a 4 point harness is COOL. =)

I think you'd have to replace the entire seat with a Sparco and use their harness (all Sparco harnesses are supplied by TRW Sabelt I think).

I think there'd be a whole can o' worms if you tried to buy a racing harness for the G's seats, because you have to use the manufacturer's fixing points and they may not work with the harness setup. But I think it can be done... TRW Sabelt makes a bolt-on kit I think? Could be major safety issues if not done right though...

Mind you I'm no expert so someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

what's this seatbelt problem that i hear about?
i haven't had any problems with my seatbelt or any discomfort due to it.
is the picture above the seatbelt extender thingy? didn't have a pic of just that so i cropped a different pic of my front seats. i've had it on since i picked up my car from the dealer. maybe that's why i'm fine? hehe

I have a 4 point harness I use for autoXing in my G. It really sits you in their if tight. It was a pain in the but to install it the way I wanted, but you can probably do it easier than me. You do not need racing seats. Just put the straps in between the headrest rails and they won't come out. I attached the shoulder straps to the child seat things in the rear deck and the lap belt to 'eye bolts' in place of the factory bolts that hold the seat down. The eye bolts were custom made to fit in the factory hole(the major ordeal i was talking about) but they sell belts with ends that you can just use the factory bolts with. elussive, how tall are you and how far up/back is your seat to the steering wheel. i'm around 6' and from the pic above you can see approx where my seat is. seatbelt never bothered me except i have to reach further back than a sedan to get to it. hmm, maybe i'm just too used to wearing a seatbelt it doesn't bother me?

I don't wants to come across as a safety ****, but there are some glaringly dangerous suggestions that needs to be addressed. But don't take my words for it, do your own research and decide what's best for your own safety.

1. Using harness in a car without a roll bar. In case of a rollover accident that crushes the roof, the lack of a roll bar will ensure that you are sitting up right with no where to go while the roof crushes in. Bad idea.

2. Attaching harness on LATCH anchors. Go search the NHTSA for LATCH design specifications and decides if you might weight a tad more than a baby in a safety seat. Then decide if you really think the LATCH anchors will hold the harness in place in a crash with all of your weight pulling against it. If you trust them, then go ahead. Personally, I'd rather trust the stock seat belts in a crash than harness that are improperly secured. Better yet, call SIMPSON and see what they think about hooking up harnesses to LATCH archors. I guarantee it will be entertaining.

Bottom line, if you are uncomfortable with the stock seat belts, you are going to HATE harness when they are properly tightened. You will be bonded with your seat and even looking over your shoulder will be an exercise in itself. If you are looking for something more comfortable, consider one of those sheep skin cover that might give you some relieve. Do not get into the thinking that you can wear the harness loose so you can still move around while you are driving. OEM seat belts are designed to tighten automatically in a crash in order for them to work. If you are wearing harness loose, you might as well not wear anything at all.

I've seen plenty of auto-x drivers with harness mounted to harness bar, LATCH archors, or an eyebolt through the floor. None of these mounting methods are considered safe in a serious crash. Auto-xer get away with it because it is generally considered a low-speed driving event and most crashes are nothing more than a single car spinning out and knocking a few cones over. While in a HPDE or open track event, or a crash at highway speed, I will take the stock seat belts over improperly installed harness without a second thought.

Think about what is at risk and decides what is the RIGHT way to do this, not the EASIEST way.

I believe a 4 or 5 point racing harness is not allowed (against the law) for road use. I agree with TX_G35 comments. I had a 4 point harness for my street car many years ago. Talk about a hassle getting strapped in everytime you drive somewhere. If you keep the stock seats, the shoulder belts will keep falling off the seat. I posted few months ago that I attended a independent survey by a research company hired by Infiniti. The discussion was only about seats and seat belts. Nissan/Infiniti is gathering info. from G35 owners so they can make design changes on their future models.
