I am sure this has been asked, so I apologize in advance. I am trying to figure out my approximate gas mileage. How many miles do you estimate I have left after the light comes on?

Safer to figure only about 40. I only get 20+ on the highway.. so if it comes on and I'm on a road trip, figure a little over 50.. but if I'm in the city getting the usual 14-16, then I figure 40 tops.

 

When the light comes on, go right to the pumps and see what you can pump. I'll bet you can't get more than 15 gallons in her.

I've heard there's a double secret 2 gallon reserve but I don't know if this is just a misperception based on the fuel tank filling problems that have plauged the G. I've run her down to the very bottom line, then gone another 15 miles stop and go, and on the Nav it was showing empty and blinking for a good 5 miles stop and go.

Plus, when you fill her up the Nav will give you Miles to Empty and the calculation seems to be based on 18 gallon tank. The manual will also tell you that there is a small reserve after you hit the bottom line, so maybe in actuality there is 5 gallons after the light comes on?

This is all very interesting. I didn't even realize there was light. I've run mine down to the empty line several times and never got a light. I've also never gotten it to take more than 15.8 gals.

I'm with Cat; I think there must be more than just 3 gallons when the light first comes on. I've done it both ways (and yes, there is a "low fuel" warning lite): filled up right after the light goes on and also run it way the hell down on long trips in the middle of nowhere.

I gotta think that Nissan/Infiniti planned for that worst-case scenario: me, in the middle of the desert, or West Texas, whichever is appropriate, and driving past the last gas station for 50+ miles. I've gone about 80 miles after the lite came on. That could be 3, 4 or even 5 gallons (and well over 400 miles on the tank).

I think there's more like 5 gallons left when the light comes on.

Not sure, because I have gone 50 miles with the light on. And I only put 18.5 gallons in. So I think its more than 3 gallons.

i never tried to figure out how much gas i have left but i do notice that on a full tank the light goes on after about 350 miles. that's about 65% highway driving.

 

I've gone around 60 miles after the light and still was only able to get around 18+ gallons in, so there was still 2 gals left. I would guess 80 miles would be safe to say you're pushing it.

 

i always test this with a new car. When my light comes on, my nav says about 30 miles. i drove 28 before i ran out, but it all depends on your acceleration.

happened this weekend. my light came on and i drove 30 miles hwy, and my needle was all the way at the bottom. i panicked and went straight to the nearest gas station which was arco. i had no choice.

 

You probably got the light and did not know it It is a very tiny light about the size of a pin tip to the lower right of the fuel indicator.

 

About 4-5 gallons left after the light. I drove 88 miles at 21 MPG (avg.) before the car cut out. I figured it would at least start sputtering or something; but when it ran out.. it RAN out... Glad I had a cellphone...
