Backed up...into another car

So Last night me and my friend decide to go for a night drive. I get in the car start her up, throw it in reverse, glance in my rear view mirror, and go. My friend has a black car.....yeah definitely couldn't see it. Anyway i roll into it at about 4-5 mph. I hear a crunch and get off it right away. Yep...I felt like a total idiot....Only got it a week ago too.

The quarter panel is scratched and has a slight dent. The rear bumper has a fairly big dent but I don't think it had any frame damage. Took it to a shop today and the estimate was 800 but that was not replacing the bumper, just to fix the dent without replacing it. Am I getting ripped? I see OEM rear bumpers for like $300 bucks, would the painting/install really be $500? I will try to get pics up later.

if I was in your situation, i would go on our marketplace here on g35driver and look for OEM rear bumpers factory painted OB. will save you alot of money instead of taking it to a body shop.

I know Ninous26(sorry for the spelling) is getting a new rear bumper to make his car flow better with the Greddy sides and such. Send him a PM, his car is OB, and he sells his OEM stuff for cheap after he replaces it.

If I were you, I would just wait for him, unless you can find another OB bumper on the marketplace. Don't repair the existing one, and don't buy an unpainted one unless you wanna spend some good money for a paint job. There's a big chance it will not match your car and your gonna have to get it done over and over again.

Yeah body shops are not cheap. I was quoted $900 to replace & paint the bumper on my '98 GSX. I asked the guy how much if I brought in a new condition bumper and he said it would cost nearly the same amount even though that makes no sense at all since I would be providing the part. They know you can't fix and paint the bumper yourself so most of them try to take advantage of that.

Like everyone else said, try and find something here first if you can wait.

Yeah I would try to do the body work myself but when i asked my dad about it, (he knows a lot more about cars than i do) he said not to try it and that even if he helped we might not get it right.

HA that's what i backed into...a like 2000 camry. I feel like a tool driving around with a dent in the back of a nice car.

Getting a new bumper is all and good but I don't want to put it on myself. They said it would be another 200 to get a new bumper.
