Rattle developed 1st day I picked up my G!

I picked up my G on Friday..... and drove to the other side of town and I noticed a rattle in the front passenger side of the dashboard...... I know the G is known for its rattles, but the 1st day? ;-/

I was wondering when anyone else's G developed its first rattle? Is this typical?

You sure it isn't the well known passenger seat-belt rattle?

Re: Rattle developed 1st day I picked up my G!

My first serious rattle developed while I was driving home from my first dealer-performed oil change. The rattle was on the rear deck, so I can't imagine the dealer caused it, but it was an odd coincidence.

After reading NYCG35's DIY, I decided to tackle the problem.

Getting to the rear deck takes a lot of work, so I tried a simple solution before going that route. I lowered the rear seats and applied thick (1/4") weatherstripping under the leading edge of the rear deck. This is the area that bends down and is hidden by the rear seats when they are up.

So far, the rattle is gone. I think by lifting the leading edge of the deck, the weatherstripping caused the top surface of the deck to be pressed down just slightly. This was enough to put enough pressure on the plastic clips to prevent the rattle.

Like I said, the rattle is gone now, but it's only been a few days. I'll post properly if this solves the problem long-term.

20,000 miles in a year, not a single rattle. Not even a squeak.

I consider myself lucky. North Carolina roads aren't that great either.

yup. I noticed 2 rattles on my first drive. If you as unlucky as I am, more will develop. The rattles are about the only thing that keeps me from unconditionally recommending the car to other people. I basically tell them that if they don't mind rattles or they have a hearing aid that they can turn down, it is THE car to get.

My dealership is pathetic so I go after them myself. It gives me something to do besides enjoying my day off.

perhaps i've been one of the few lucky ones...i don't know. but the rattle problems with the coupe is well-documented and there are even tsb's on the issue. i however, don't have much of a rattle problem. the only rattles i get periodically is when i have the windows rolled down and they rattle for the first few minutes but then disappear. perhaps it's adaptation or habituation on the part of my ear's, but the rattle is only temporary. also, when i have stuff in the door pockets and have the music on loud, it rattles but that's just because of the "stuff" (cassette tapes and junk). i've now stuffed napkins next to the stuff to dampen the vibration between the junk and the pocket walls.

i'm just really curious about all the rattles that people complain about. i just wonder if perhaps it's just me and i don't notice the rattles--same goes with tire noise--it's never bothered me before.

My car is 2 months old and my rearview mirror rattles over bumps, seatbelts, and the trim piece around the shifter but the car is still so hot.

I've got the glove box rattle too particularly when going over bumps. THe sunroof creaks when open but supposedly there is a TSB out for it.

In terms of the glove box rattle, you guys might try and see if it's actually coming from the passenger door panel right by the speaker grill. I put foam everywhere trying to find the rattle but my g/f noticed the rattle one day and put her hand on the speaker grill. Noise gone. I took the panel off and foamed everything that could be touching between the panel and the door. Problem solved.

In terms of the rearview mirror, it's probably the power line or the actual homelink buttons that are buzzing. I put some foam between the buttons and the switches and that cured the buzzing.

...may sound like front passenger side of the dash, but check closely - - may be your sunglasses holder. I had the same problem, and my "holder" was the culprit.
