I could be wrong but my guess is that your dad had a change of heart and blamed his decision on the dealer maybe? I just can't see a dealer talking anyone out of a sale...

I think your dad has the impression that the G is a high performance sports car and, well... he's right!
Tell him you promise not to modify the intake and maybe he'll come around...

Re: so turns out i can't get a G35

You know car dealers are idoits. I remember walking into Honda dealer when I was 21 looking at s2000 and the Accord. They told me the car is way too fast for my age and when I asked why there is no manual transmission mated with the Accord Coupe V6 they said the V6 engine is too powerful for the car. LOL. I didn't want to straight out laugh at him so I thanked him politely and walked out the door. 3 blocks later I was at BMW and the dealer tried to sell me the M3. haha. I told him I can't possibly afford that but he said due to my education I should be able to pay it off with no problem. Fast foward 5 years, now I make enough to afford the M but I am still looking at the G35 because its more practical. However, I am leaning towards the M, which will put me couple years back for a house in LA. Unless you make over 100k a year purchasing a decent house in LA can be next to impossible.

I still think the Honda dealer should have sold me the s2k but who knows maybe their salary is based on how many less cars they sell. As kids these days they have no value of money, funny thing is they all believe they do. Not wanting a car because it doesn't have enough sex appeal. Hahah. You should be happy your parents got you a working car without you paying a dime. If my parents throw me a 28k new car nowdays I will still take it with no questions asked. (That's what they did when I was 20.) Hey if that's how parents raise their kids nowdays, good for them. It just makes it easier for me to sell their kids useless junk later on in life and have their money in my pockets. :-) The sex appeal is in you, not the car. If some girl go for you for the car she probably will sleep with couple thousand other G35 couple owners, oh wait and Bmw owners, and the Porsches, and the Ferrais. Damn that's a lot of guys.

Peace.

Re: so turns out i can't get a G35

i totally appreciate what my dad is doing for me, its not liek i did nothing to deserve it. we made a deal, if i got a 3.6 gpa my first year of college, i get a nice car....and yes believe it, the car dealer was on speaker phone and i was right there when he said "dont buy this car for ur daughter, i wouldnt have a clear conscience selling it to you because it is too powerful and sux in the snow" well im gonna see how things go tomorrow when i drop the s4 idea on my dad. if that doesnt work out, i get the 330xi...NOT BAD! ill let u know how it goes. thanx...

Re: so turns out i can't get a G35

i think a lot of us "kids" have a better idea of money than you think......at least for me..i know that they are nice to buy me a car...but at the same time...when i can afford things..i know i would get them anything they want as well...think of it as a LOAN...which i probably would take out if they don't support me...by supporting me they are saving me money and that DIRECTLY helps everyone in the family....

i guess i am talking to an older crowd where they are all about "it doesn't really matter what people think about you"...but sorry..i am still young..where i still care about how i look..how i dress..how people preceive me...thats how the society is based on before you get married....and before you get a 100K salary....i am sorry...when i got married...got a great job..i probably gonna be looking at a BMW SUV or what not...so ya

again...i appreciate everything that my parents done for me...but without a doubt i WILL do the same for them in the future....i will not dislike them one bit if they get me a car that i don't want....but it would be the best that if they get me a car that i want..right?

Just go to college, then in 4 years, buy yourself the car. Worked for me.

Ok I believe you. As to the power, it's only too much if you can't resist abusing it. As to winter performance there's no question that the car is a disaster on the stock tires. Evidently a set of 4 good winter tires changes all that though - people say the coupe does very well with them (I managed to avoid driving the car in the snow almost entirely last winter so I didn't get them myself). It is an additional expense and hassle though.

The 330xi is certainly a very nice alternative. Congratulations on the fine GPA and enjoy your reward!

"Baby"girl....

Do you even know anything about cars? or do you just pick whatever appeals to you on the outside? Obviously, it looks like you don't know much if you want an S4. If a G35 is too powerful for you, the S4 will be twice as bad. Even with its AWD.

I really think you should lower your bar a little bit and practice your divining skills on something a bit less "glamorous"....

How about a nice shiny civic? I'm sorry but it sounds like you're a spoiled little baby.

Re: so turns out i can't get a G35

man... how many people on this forum didn't pay for their cars??? wow!

anyway, to the gent that said the g is a high performance sports car, it's more of a sporty luxo-coupe/gran tourer than a sports car.

what school do you go to!? a 3.6 gpa had better be at an ivory league school to get a 40k car like the bmw!

Re: so turns out i can't get a G35

I did a lot of research on the G coupe before I got mine and I knew what I was getting in to before I bought it, but I love my G. Depends on where you live for the snow factor. I know that I have to get another set of rims and snow tires for the car which I will most likely put on in November through March or so. You just have to be careful and having FWD cars my entire life, this is different, but great! Do you want an 5AT or 6MT?
