Break in period

Break in period
So i've heard various conflicting bits of info about the break in period for the G coupes. The G is my first new car so i'm not sure what to think.
Some people, including the dealer, have told me that there is no necessary break in period since all of the engine components are so precisely engineered that they don't need to "grind down."
Others have said to drive it moderatly for about 6,000 miles.
I've got a Ducati 620 sport, don't get excited Ducatiguy obsessed folks, and the manual clearly states a break in period of at least 1000 miles. It's got the cute little Brembos like the G. Coincidence? I think not.
Anyway, I was just looking for some outside opinions or experiences. I've already got about 19,000 miles on it and still haven't gotten it anywhere near redline.
Thoughts?

Re: Break in period
In the manual is states 1200 miles break in, no reving over 4k and vary the rpms and speed, ie no cruise control. even if the dealer told me no brake in required I would not believe it, as in the manual written by Infiniti clearly states that there is a brake in period.

Here's an alternative opinion. One that I share.

Re: Break in period
I have under 600 miles on mine and I have had it to 6000 rpm. I started out only taking it up to 3 or 4000 and then every now and then I would run it to 5000 but not at full throttle. I cannot see the good in driving it under 4000 and then at 1251 miles mashing it to the floor and redlining every gear! My .02

Re: Break in period
Unless you're planning to keep the car for over 10 years, go ahead and mash it. More than likely the car will be in the possesion of another owner if there's going to be any problems.
How do you drive 19K miles without going flooring it? Might as well have gotten a Civic or something.

Re: Break in period
It is quite obvious motor vehicle engines still have some components that need to "grind down" if you look at any oil analysis. The initial 2 or 3 oil changes will have higher metal content than an engine that has a few thousand miles on it.
Whether the engine will require babying to get that excess metal ground off is up to you as there are numerous schools of thought on it. For me, I decided to take it easy for a couple thousand miles. I also changed my oil at 350 miles. Probably overkill but thats what where a heavier concentration of metal shavings seems to circulate through the vehicle.
