ALIGNMENT AFTER INSTALL OF AF WHEELS?

I posted this in the Wheels forum but no one responded, so...

Hi,

I had my new PIAA's installed yesterday with 245 front and 275 rear S03's and the tire guy told me I should get an alignment cuz I put AF wheels on. I couldn't see the logic and was wondering if he was just trying to plug another shop for biz. (BTW, he handed me a slip for and SPECIAL rate for going to THAT place for the alignment)

you dont need an alignment...its like dealerships who bump up costs of scheduled services by throwing tire rotation balanaces for 60 bucks, or adding fuel treatment to clean the injectors for 30 and its just a bottle and not a machine...

You should ALWAYS get your car aligned after changing the wheels and tires. I have seen countless people that were too cheap to spend $80 end wasting 20/19 inch tires halfway into the tires life.
You went with a wider tire in the rear so now the car has a different contact patch versus the stock tire. What will end up happening is your tire will cup on the inside.

what I'm trying to understand is, all I did was put new wheels on the car, I didn't change the direction of the suspension and the wheels are straight so how does that affect the alignment?

Re: ALIGNMENT AFTER INSTALL OF AF WHEELS?

Your stock tires are narrower than your aftermarket ones. You now have more tire on the pavement than before. So the alignment needs to be done to compensate for the change.
If you dont get it aligned your tires will wear faster and unevenly...
Trust me... I know first hand...

You should definitely get an alignment done when you change your tire specs.

I put the same setup on my car and had my alignement done. My rear tires were more than 1 degree off factory specs.

But hey I must've been crazy to get that done, right? What was I thinking.......
