OOH, OOH! G35C 6MT VS. Merkur Scorpio
OOH, OOH! G35C 6MT VS. Merkur Scorpio
Wow! this guy had some big ones just to hit me up for a race. For crying out loud, it's a Merkur Scorpio!!!
So here we go...this happened on Edinger Ave. Right where the old Marine base was here in Tustin in the OC.
I take this route to the gym everyday and it is the most pristine stretch of asphalt 3 lanes wide this side of a freeway. I mean, this is where you could seriously have yourself a nice uninterrupted race for about 3miles without hitting a light or intersection.
So this guy in a straw hat and a Merkur Scorpio stares at me at the light before we enter that stretch of road. I stare back, glaring wildly from my usually sedate countenance and he flashes me a bucktoothed grin. I snicker mockingly at his vain attempt to emasculate me by beating my trusted steed.
The light turns green...my foot is to fast off the clutch and I stall...people behing yell in anger. Moms in their Range Rovers honk for they are late to Pilates class. A bus full of special children wave to me all along mocking me and casting aspersions toward my driving ability by pointing and with the inevitable, "HA, ha!" a la Nelson Muntz.
The Merkur Scorpio is now 3 car lengths ahead of me and I still have my lovely machine stalled at the light. Lucky for me, natural instincts kicked in and I put my foot to the clutch and restarted the car. And just as I was ready to go, the light turned red leaving me gently straddling the crosswalk, as wild-eyed youngsters and the crossing guard give me looks of disdain and sheer derision toward my inaction.
The Scorpio was now half a mile away.
Eagerly anticipating the green light, I gently massaged the gas pedal and taking my foot off the clutch ever so gently as with the touch of a feather to a newborns bottom. GREEN! Drop the clutch! My G roars with all of her 6 cylinders as I launch the car with the fury of an awoken giant who was dreaming of a giant Carmen Electra only to be shaken awake before she was to perform her services unto him!
I catch the Scorpio a mile and a half down the road whilst in 2nd gear doing about oh, let's say 29. I look at his straw covered head and laugh and roll my windows down so he could hear my battle song: "Waterloo" by ABBA!!!
I depress the gas fully and I was gone but the Merkur Scorpio and his straw hat wearing driver will never be forgotten...
APC is my weapon of choice.
APC reeks of great taste.

After leaving the Scorpio behind, I felt nothing but pangs of guilt for beating an obviously inferior machine.
My pride would have been spared if I had taken on a much more powerful car.
I feel like the schoolyard bully who takes the scrawny kid's lunch money and laughing all the way...
I guess the sarcasm just does not translate even when you're trying to be so obvious in written form.
