it seems like the majority of people on here just do exterior mods and go more for looks than performance and speed. Whats the deal with that?

It might have something to do with the difficulty of getting any substantial extra power out of the VQ short of going Forced Induction.

I did the bolt-on "go" parts I was interested in before I started doing "show" parts. I still have one more major "go" part (Osiris) that I want to get, but after that aside from spending big money on headers and cams plus install, there isn't much more I can do to extract naturally aspirated power from the VQ.

I'll probably just do a few more "show" parts after Osiris and then I'll be "done" (relative term since I'll inevitably tinker here and there)

Age of the owner might have something to do with it..when I get my G I want to do the following "go" changes:

CAI
Exhaust
spacer
Grounding kit

Show
Clear markers
Spoiler if the car I find doesn't have it

Performance and speed are not always practical. I don't race or track my car so my need for performance parts isnt top of my mod list. I have however done various mods to the exterior for "show".

It comes down to personal preference, Im re-badged skyline 350gt in the rear and 350gt in the front with Ionics grille. I get people all the time at redlights asking me what type of car im driving. I usually give them a joke response such as "Its a racecar" or "Its japanese" then drive off. People have no idea and I enjoy that.

Go is nice but Go can land you in jail if you have a lapse in judgement. Show is always nice.

Show will make the car look good even when it's parked. Most of us don't race our cars so too much speed is not very practical, screeching tires from every red light only gets you into handcuffs.

If the G was not my daily driver and I was into tracking then maybe I would go FI and make it a strictly race car.

Some people care more about having a nice looking car than a fast one, I don't think that's too hard to understand.

Just balance it out. I started off with the show part being that the G had more than enough go for the other cars around me. Now that my exterior/interior are pretty much show I'm making the big go factor priority now ie. built motor and TN kit. Take your time though and put a plan together. If you have exterior accessories suchas a drop and wheels then add some power adding bolt ons such as intake, spacer and exhaust. You won't get much for gains but it'll sure sound nice

Also i want to point out. Performance is indirectly proportional to comfortiblity.

Meaning the more of a racecar it is, the less comfy it is.

Sure lightweight flywheel & ACT stage 3 clutch makes it spool up and grab quicker but you also get a very jerky car for around the town.

same thing with suspension, or wheels, ect.

also, there is a sports car performance version of our car...its the 350Z. notice the lack of interior, the lack of comfortibility.

the g35 is made to be a compromise of both..the more you turn it into a 350Z, the more you take away its around town comfortibilty.

Hell, the 350Z weights less as well...so basically you just spent alot of $$ to upgrade your G35 to be even with the power/weight ratio of 350Z.

^ good point. the G35 is a nice blend of sports car and luxury. It must depend on what you initially wanted when you decided on getting a G. For me, I wanted a sports car with the added bonus of luxury, and others simply wanted a luxury car with the added bonus of being sporty.

That's not nesscasirly true. Osiris can smooth out your shifts, and spacer and exhaust, CAI aren't gonna hurt comfortablity. You can lower your car and still have it be as comfortable as stock, as long as it's not slammed.

And OP, the cars are fast enough stock, the real reason for CAI and exhaust is more for sound and looks, but also gives you small gains. Show before go is good on a 300 hp car because it already has the ***** to back it up. But if you have a modded out 100hp civic with all show, then that's stupid. The only real Go mod is FI for our cars.

1. G realy isn't gonna GO much faster with the basic breather mods
2. some show mods and the G looks

Same here. A little tint plus rims make a car look so much better.
A plenum spacer and Z tube are all you need for performance unless going FI.

more show because most people dont have $10,000 to spend on FI... so they start with show and work there way up

i would say suspension work is the best combination of show/go because you improve the look of the car, and make it handle substantially better with less cost involved. A good set of wheels, springs, and swaybars can be had for ~$3-4k, will result in a good looking car that "go's" faster around turns.
