Question about VIN and Rev-up oil issues

Hi, new to the site obviously. I have a quick question regarding the Rev-up oil issues on 05-07 6MT Coupes. Disclaimer -- I have searched on my question but am coming up with conflicting answers

I read the sticky about the TSB that Infinity issued. It states that the problem exists before a certain VIN (JNKCV54E(*)7M910256 so Im assuming a VIN after that one will be free of the oil issue?

Also, it states that any build dates after May 29, 2007 are fine...does that mean that all the VIN's after the one on the TSB are late 2007 and up models?

Basically what I'm getting at is this: Do all the '05-'06 6MT Coupes have the oil issue no matter the VIN? I have been looking at '03-04 models but I'd like to expand my search to the '05 as well but it is out of the question if all '05 6MT Coupes have the oil problem.

Thanks for any help,
Mike

Yes the TSB states a given range of cars, however, many people on this site have had engine replacements for their cars that do not fall in that range.

Not all 05-06 6MT's are prone to OC. I have a friend with an 05 that doesn't burn anything. It's hit-and-miss with them. Just know, Infiniti isn't the only auto manufacturer that has cars consuming oil at an excessive rate....it's just one of the few that is actually stepping up, admitting the problem, and replacing engines. I wouldn't let the OC issue keep you from buying an 06 G35. If you are buying the car from an Infiniti dealer you should bring up the issue pre-purchase and begin the testing as soon as you buy the car. Good luck!

EDIT: I had my engine replaced in my 06 at 20k miles. I'm now at 27k and the new engine is running strong with very very minimal oil consumed.

Ok, that's exactly what I needed to know. Im just not sure if I want to deal with a possible engine swap, whether it's covered or not. Not to mention most of the 05's are starting to come out of warranty. I guess I'll keep looking for an '04 for now and see what happens.

Thanks for the help

Just be aware the '04 has 18 less hp, a flat and boring gauge cluster with the speedometer on the wrong side of the RPM meter, and the silver part of the interior is plastic instead of aluinimum. That's what is keeping me from getting an 03-04. Also, 04 does not have the 19" rims available stock.

On the bright side, it has Brembos and 10 more lbs of torque.

If I were you, I would buy an 05-06 and get an extended warranty. If you don't have OC then you got a better engine and nicer interior for a little more. If you do have OC, you get a brand new engine. seems win-win to me

Yep, I'm aware of the lower hp # on the '03-04's but that wont be an issue since I will be installing a Vortech SC on whatever I end up with...All 3 of my cars are turbo'd so the G35 will have to be some sort of FI. I can't live without boost, LOL.

The gauge cluster does bother me but Im not a big fan of any of the G35 clusters...I do love the rest of the interior though. And it is a plus that the '03-04s come with the Brembo's even if they wear fast.

I dont know, maybe I'll expand my search to include the '05 and just make sure it has always been serviced by Infinity and has an extended warranty. Although, I dont want to have to deal with a new engine, warranty or not. *Sigh* decisions, decisions.

Thanks for the help guys
