Too many maintanance...

Ok long story short I have a 03 and I went to the dealer to do my differential fluid and oil change. After everything are done the rep. told me they did a "Visual Vihecle Inspection Report." (which they gave me copy) They said that I need some future attention needed on my car heres are the list and quoted prices:

1.Upper/lower radiator hoses include coolant
-they said its getting brittle. (Price: $ 463)

2.cooler hoses
-also getting brittle.(Price $145)

3.Spark Plugs
- Price $428 ( I just hit 61k)

then next month I'm planning to flush my Trans before I do a long drive going to SF for Holidays, they quoted me for $250.

MY TOTAL: $1,285 I just shook my head when he said that to me. I don't know what the F*** I'm goin to do to get those done before I do my long drive I don't want to have more headache when something break down while driving.. Any opinion guys? thanks in advance.

do it all yourself if its really necessary..

try to recondition the hoses, and your tranny shouldnt need a flush.

you need to find youself a friend who's a mechanic who you do things while teaching you for the price of beer + parts. THat's the way i've done it and now do 98% of the stuff myself, saves a load of money. Only take the car to the stealership for warranty crap

Don't look at the dealer quoting man, do it all yourself if you able to. Only need important things to change, not every single of them. Spark plugs, coolant, oil, filters, driving belts and that pretty much it. Tranny fluid is not really recommended unless you really have to. With few simple tools you can do this in few hours + beers. Check out my sig. and thats all I ever done to my car. Ofcourse regularly change oil every 5K miles intervals with Mobile 1.

The scheduled spark plug change on these cars is 105,000 miles. Unless they took them out and looked at them (no way they did that) then they are full of ****. I took my 04 Coupe in to my dealer to have some maintenance done at 65k and I even asked if I should get the plugs changed and they told me no. If I were you I would take it to a reputable independent shop near you and have them inspect the hoses to see what they say because if your dealer is lying about the plugs they might be doing the same about the hoses.

Almost the same story, I took my FX to the dealer today to do the brakes, because in reverse when applied they squeal. Also, to check the battery because sometimes it sounds like the car doesn't want to start... The rep told me that I needed a new dash because mine was bubbling (Thanks florida heat)
But thats covered under warranty, and they said I might need a new battery. They also said I should do my 30k which came out to 704 for a whole bunch of misc. crap. I chose not to. Really dont think I need to.

I'm sure someone here has a DIY for the plugs. They can post on this thread so that we all know how to do it going forward. The plugs should not cost you more than $10 a pop, total, $60-70. That's the most expensive part of your repair. The hoses, you should be able to buy those from your local dealer and those should be easy to do, but if you can't do it, find a local mechanic who can. I'm sure if you ask around, you probably have a friend who has a good mechanic who won't rape ya. You should wind up with about $1K left for mods or for a well-deserved vacation in the Spring. GL dealing with the stealership to all.

If you have an auto tranny, a local lube shop can flush the tranny for $50-60 at the most. I was on www.maxima.org for years and, peeps that did the expensive tranny flush that forces fluid in and out of your tranny did nothing but ruin peoples trannys. Hope this helps.
