There is a much easier way and more accurate way to check gas mileage without hurting your car or worrying about running out.

You fill the the tank completely, reset the odometer, drive as far as you want (you can do just hwy or just city too), refill tank all the way.

Divide the exact miles on the odometer by the exact number of gallons...that will be your exact gas mileage for that tank of gas.

I usually get 300 on a tank, and fill up a little over 16 gallons... but if I drive hard, in a hurry or quick off the line, I only hit about 200 miles on the tank. When not in a hurry, I try and shift at 3000 RPMs (manual mode) and when in drive, not getting on it, the car shifts a little above 3000 RPMs. When on it hard I shift at like 5500 RPMs, and the car in drive will shift even higher than that.... Slow and easy wins the race to the gas station

I just filled up today at 220 miles with about 4 gallons left. I don't really care anymore, it is what it is.

if i fill my tank when its bone dry, i put in a hair under 20 gallons, my gas gauge will read almost a half tank. i will go about 100 miles and the light will come on. if i go to the gas station at this point i can only put in about 6 gallons. so i just drive to about 340-360miles and fill up. it usually takes just under 20 gallons at this point, which puts me right around 17-18mpg, whether i drive lite or hard. btw i have an 03 coupe 5A/T with an injen cai.

Same here, I just do the same concept. Just that after 350 - 360 miles, I never fill it over 17 gallons. My average shift points are at 4K. I remembered when my odometer still working, the fuel light led up at almost 400miles.

2005 6mt/aero/sport/prem/nav and I get 21 mpg in mixed driving with 1-2 bursts of speed per day for kicks. So, it's the heaviest model with the revup.

If I push it from topped off full to way empty, I could push out approx 400 miles.

Sounds like a fuel sending unit problem. If your G is idling fine and not sputtering and there is no white or black smoke coming out of the tail pipes, its more than likely your fuel sending unit has gone bad! This happened to me, i was only getting 190 per tank (false quantity reading)

Just to throw my .02 in, Most of my driving is around town and to be honest, its kind of hard not to enjoy the power so I get about 15 or 16 mpg..
But when I take a longer trip on highways my car has gotten 22 to 24.5 mpg while driving 70 to 75 mpg., I don't think any of us bought our cars for the purpose of conserving gas so I can't complain about my mileage.

I dont have a problem at all about the gas price/mileage..I was just curious if maybe I had a problem with my Fuel Sending unit..since that is what I was expecting the responses to be...I am going to have it tested to really see if that is the issue..if its is then I should be able to see the right kind of mileage reflected versus having to fill up my car every single week....
