My Gas Mileage....Is there a Problem? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

hey everyone..well really quick what size tank do we have on our G35's? is it 16 or 18? I thought it was 16 but after talking to an infiniti tech today on the phone he mentioned 18..he then stated that you should technically in our Coupes only get 250-280 miles on a stock G on a full tank gas..my thought when he said this was.....when I fill up my car normally when I'm on E (empty)...I usually put about 15 1/2 to 16 gallons into the car..I thought that was normal until he told me this today.

with that being said I have seen alot of post about people stating the fuel sending unit can sometimes go bad or the 2 tier leveling system in the tank could be acting up which causes the Fuel Gauge to either read lower then what it should...or when you fill up it sometimes doesn't hit FULL like it says it is.

I took a pic on the way to work today to show my mileage and where my fuel gauge is sitting...I have listed the mods below that I have that could maybe hurt my gas mileage...I didn't see them as really hurting the car though. My car is going into Infiniti On Saturday for an oil change and I was curious if I should have them check out some other things while its in there based on this....

The sad thing is that right now I am getting worse gas mileage being NA then I was when I was Supercharged...I do not have an aftermarket ECU. I drive the car normally with sometimes increased acceleration but not enough to justify my max tank of gas being 230 Miles.

list of mods:

Intake:
MD plenum spacer 1/2
ARC intake

Exhaust:
HKS Exhaust
Kinetix 300-Cell HFC's

Transmission:
GTM Valve body Upgrade

Other Miscellaneous:
20-Inch Rims
Tien Coilovers
Koyo Radiator with Aftermarket Fans
Samco Hoses

Here is the pic: when this was taken about 5 mins earlier my gas gauge was on E with the light on..when I stopped the gas gauge went up..

yes I have already posted up in that thread but wanted to get some insight into my own thread so that I know what to tell the tech when I go up there on Saturday. I know what the search function does and I know how to use it. Thanks for posting.

Do you know if there is a difference, like the gas tank was increased to 20 for the 05 year? Because a lot of people talk about 16, then a lot talk about 20... Where would they get the 16 from?

The tank on the G has always been 20 gallons.

Most people think it is 16 because they fill up 16 and change when the gas light comes on. The tank's actual capacity is 20 gallons.

I usually fill up a little bit before it hits E. Usually I get in about 50L or around 12gallons, dont know why It wont fill more, and I get around 250miles to a tank so around 17mpg.

Its 20, but 4 are reserve so you dont usually get that far into it.

I get 21ish mpg having mixed driving, all highway trips even with some big hills I get about 29mpg avg

might want to get some tune up stuff done to get better mileage as well...all assuming you havent done them yet

-spark plugs (is that a 50k thing??)
-throttle body cleaning
-fuel injector cleaning additive
-some spirited driving gets any carbon buildup out of everything usually
-...my mind is blank ive been studying all night

---my gas mileage went up from 7 to 10 on my lifted 1993 Jeep GC ZJ when i did all the stuff above and some more

...im a total post ***** right now since i havent slept in 2 days

thats what I talked to my tech about....I have a new engine in the car after I blew my first one...I picked it up from a salvage yeard with 38k on it...I now have 42k on my car.

I asked him if I should change out the Spark Plugs, Fuel injectors etc...I have my OEM set of injectors from my old engine sitting in the garage. I also just got a new throttle body put on that I had polished so that should be an issue.

I was thinking of upgrading the plugs in the car, putting in some fuel injector cleaner...I am having the oil change on Saturday. They are going to run an Ohm test on my car to see if my fuel sending unit is drawing enough current.
