Smoked Tails DIY?

I briefly searched but all the links posted in the threads were dead...

Does anyone know of a DIY for spray tinting tail lights?

I had Vinyl on my 04 lights, but wanna spray my 06's and have the indents left as a cut out. Any advice on what to use for the cut outs would also be appreciated...

yo if your trying to paint them i can help you out

you can either use niteshade, or regular black spray paint,

yeah i said it black spray paint, what you gotta do is

first take out the tails and clean them as well as possible

then tape off the sections you dont want paint to go over,

after its clean and taped up start using light coats of paint

light coats across until each is dry then waiting to do another layer

once you are at the desired darkness just let them dry

they will prob look real dull at this point

but no worries all you gotta do is spray some clear coat on them,

heres a pic of what mine looked like on my civic i didnt paint the

turn signal reverse part.

Thanks! I got Nite shades coming on the way... Your prep work looks really good! Im worried about taping of circles though on the G, how tough is that gonna be?!?!

Any specific brand of clear coat? Just any automotive store stuff?

i smoked the tails on my old ride - a maxima - using VHT NiteShades...worked like a champ.

back then, i did a how-to here:

http://www.kevinfisher.net/web_serve...light-mod.html

obviously it's a maxima...but the info about Niteshades might be helpful to you none-the-less.

By using nightshades on tail lights, does it fade in a while and under rainy condition?

i can't speak for anyone else who has used it, but for me personally on my Maxima - YES it has very slowly faded over time.

i tinted mine with NiteShades back in June of 2003. when i sold it my sister-in-law back in late 2007 it was faintly tinted. it had faded over the years. i should take a pic of it when i see her and the Maxima this xmas and post up a "5 years later" pic.

but realize i think how long it stays dark will depend on how thick you apply it. from day 1 i regretted not putting it on darker - should of applied more coats to layer it more and make it darker.

i used 4 coats - prob should of done 6-8. would of been darker in the beginning and lasted longer.

i can also say that i'm going to be tinting my tails and corners on my new G. but even with my overall good experience with NiteShades - i'll be using overlays this time.
