Weak paint- any color better/worse than others?

I'm planning on buying a G35 Coupe this year- perhaps a 2005. I hear the paint chips easily. Does anybody know if one color holds up better than others, or all the colors equally soft?

Glassfan-

Typically, lighter colors tend to be a bit more forgiving with displaying blemishes with silver being the best at hiding marks and swirls. You have to trade that however, with it's reflective properties. When clean (and free from swirls), black looks like a mirror. Silver does not.

I think color choice should be made taking into account the amount of time that the buyer anticipates cleaning the car. If you want black, you should be prepared to work harder to keep it nice that if you buy red.

As for chips...no paint is going to be an exception. Do yourself a favor and BUY A CLEARBRA! It is worth every penny. I've had my coupe for 5 months, use it daily, and don't have a single chip. Make sure you go with a full kit which protects your hood and front-end along with mirrors, and rear panel.

I don't think time is the determining factor. YOUR PERSONAL PREFERENCE IS!

Then take into account what you will have to deal with AFTER. If you hated black, but planned to put massive amounts of time into detailing, does that mean you would pick black?

Weak Paint? I don't think the paint is weak.. how about American roads and all the crap that is flying around? How about folowing too close at 60 MPH? How about a daily driver? I have had my G for nearly a year now and I have zero rock chips... I only have 4600 miles on her as well... But I bet if I drove her every day it would be soon be ridden with chips from the above mentioned things... I had a clear bra installed after the first week of ownership so I might be full of sh*t! But with out the bra I bet I would have a couple of chips due to the great highway experience...

A word of caution: stay away from Laser Red. The color coat chips but the undercoat, which is white, doesn't. The result is a car that is riddled with little white dots. A bra is not a sure-fire cure. My G has chips on the fenders, doors, A-pillars and roof. And this is after only six months ownership. I don't even want to think about what it will look like in a couple of years. And anyone who thinks that a coat of wax, even Zaino, is strong enough to deflect flying rocks, has rocks in their head. BTW, my wife's '04 Honda Civic has 8m miles on it and has no chips in the paint.

i have many, and i mean MANY rock chips both on my front bumper and hood just from daily driving. yes, if you ask me, I think Infiniti/Nissan should've done a better job as far as paint goes. I have a Black coupe btw.

No Joke. This car chips worse than any car I have ever seen. My girlfriends 12 year old BMW has less chips than mine. My 8 year old Nissan Sentra had 5 minor chips.

I have in 8 months of ownership 3 noticable (big) chips on the hood / sides, numerous small chips (small like pin size).

For all of you people that haven't had a single chip on the front end.. you're lucky sob's :P. I had my first chip on the hood (big chip btw) in the first month of driving it.. and i stayed *way far* away from peoples bumpers. It's just not right how they painted this car... On the good side a showroom quality paintjob costs 3 or 4 grand.. which is alot better than buying a new car, and then the car will look (and stay looking) kickin. While if I bought a civic (or another sentra) ... no amount of paint jobs could make it look like my rocked up G35

My 04 black coupe already has more chips than my 97 honda/acura. However, the shape/angle of the hood has a lot to do with it too.
I'm not sure if any color is better/worse, but I know for the 350z some paints you can request an option for 3 coats (extra ~$300 CAD). I wish Infinti offerred the same.

Stay away from Red. I have had my Laser Red for 18 months now, and there are chips everywhere. Needless to say it is quite disappointing. I am thinking of trading in for a 05', and I will not get red again.
