did you ask for "No Front Plates"?

hi,

When you were buying your car, did you have to ask the salesperson not to put the plates on your car? Or are the cars with no front plates ones that were ordered?

Re: did you ask for "No Front Plates"?

When the salesman sat me down he asked me if I wanted front plates. I told him I didn't, so he gave me a form to sign stating if I get pulled over they are not responsible for the ticket. I personally think front playes are ugly, and no holes are going on my bumper!

I actually forgot about asking that I'm just glad they didn't. However it's probably because
1. The car just got off the truck hours before
2. It was after 11PM on Valentines Day.

They wouldn't give me a new bumper. Said I could take it or leave it.. It was back when the 04's just came out, however its probably a lot for a new bumper, and they can find someone else to buy who doesn't care.

If you live in a state that requires a front plate, the dealer is technically required to put it on. Ximer - please let us know the dealers reaction when you ask for a new bumper...

Re: did you ask for "No Front Plates"?

My state requires front plate installed, the dealer didn't ask if I want it to be installed, they just give me the form to sign instead. I think all the G I see in their lot didn't had anything on the front bumper.

They didnt ask me and I was too happy to think about anything else but getting in my car and driving away with a smile. But I now wish I said something about it because I have two holes in the bumper as well. So I figure it looks stupid with the holes I might as well leave the plate on.

Re: did you ask for "No Front Plates"?

If your dealer tries to insist on mounting a front license plate (and you don't want the holes drilled in your bumper), tell him that you are planning to register the car in a state that does not require a front license plate and that you will handle the registration/titling/tax process yourself. He is still obligated to provide the 30 day tag and then you are free to install or not install the front tag as you please. You will, of course, have to come up with the registration and titling fees and taxes yourself instead of applying it against your vehicle loan.

Re: did you ask for "No Front Plates"?

They drilled holes to mount the plate? Mine came with a front plate bracket that screws into the tow hole. My dealer (Grubbs) showed me the unmounted bracket in the trunk, told me that a front plate was required by law, but said he'd leave it up to me to decide. He even told me that most people with coupes aren't mounting them because it looks better.

I live in a state the requires a front license plate (CT), but my dealer was considerate enough not to drill any holes in the front bumper before I came to pick up my car and gave him the ok.

Re: did you ask for "No Front Plates"?

my dealership actually said not to get them because they're ugly, but if I really wanted them to drill they could. The salesman said if I got pulled over to blame it on the dealership and tell him that they were all out of the front license plate brackets.

He also refered me to strictlyz.com (for the tow hitch plate that grubbs is evidently giving out, how cool) if I wanted to be able to put on one for when I go out on the weekends so I don't get pulled over if I'm out drinking.

In IL it's required (and i have a ticket and a warning for no front plate from a previous car), but it's not a moving violation so whatever.

Re: did you ask for "No Front Plates"?

Although I live in a "front plate state" I requested that the dealer leave off the front plate bracket which they did without questioning me.

When my wife bought her car at another dealership they told us that it was illegal to let the car go without a front plate. I insisted that they leave it off and prevailed.

Have the salesman write it on the order form so it will be part of the purchase agreement. Then you can refuse the car if it has been drilled.
