Obviously, but that's why he asked in the first place, to see if it would be okay. If you were looking for lighter rims, and you knew which one was lighter, you wouldn't ask.

your looking at saving 100-200 a year. Let's see, for $100 a year, you can have a more reliable engine, signifcantly more horsepower, and better gas mileage.

But no, save the money if you want, because obviously having $100 more for food, beer, or an inch more on a TV is better than your $30,000 investment.

So the better gas mileage talk is crap. First year drove completely premium, 2nd year drove complete regular. Same gas mileage. No knocking, no stalling, sputtering, nothing. You only loose power pretty much. Now that gas has dropped I've been back to premium for a few month, still nothing change really and gain a bit more power. Also you really only notice the power difference when you are pushing the car hard. If you are planning to go out racing everyday then go 91-100 Octane else you can put in whatever your heart desires.

Note: Me switching to regular for a year saved me $7.00 a tank, given the difference in price between regular and premium can easily be $0.40 around here. And since I commute from San Francisco to Palo Alto I save about $650 a year, not to bad. Anyways back to premium now.

Absolutely only the best will do. People on here drop 3-4K on wheels, we drop thousands of $$$ on audio, it's just not a cheap car to own. Tires for 19" wheels are roughly 1K a set, nothing is cheap for it. I fully agree that there's nothing wrong with a Civic. Heck, there's no shame with downsizing in this hard times. With all the info. that's out there, do the research before you buy. Can't afford it, don't buy it. Simple as that.

You don't get it do you? He was asking if saving money on gas would be a good idea. He didn't know the benefits of premium - thus he asked. Everyone just automatically assumes he can't afford to drive his G. I use premium only just because it's recommended and it's no big deal to me. If I wondered what would happened if I used regular, I would ask. If you can save money without losing anything else, you would want to know, therefore he asked.

I was filling up my car this morning and happened to notice on the inside of my fuel cap there is a sticker that says something along the lines of "Premium Fuel Only" or something of that nature. I understand how you are trying to save money but in all honesty its not worth saving a dollar or two on a tank of gas or having a good clean running engine. Premium in my area currently is at $2.09 a gallon. $32 bucks this morning to fill up. That will put a smile on your face!

It's not the ECU that determines what the car needs. The motor we have is a relatively high compression motor, which means you need a higher octane fuel to run it good. With a lower octane fuel you risk detonation and damaging the motor.

Um, yes actually it does. Compression does play a role in the which ocatane fuel to run, but not as much as the tune the car has on it's ecu. You can run a high compression engine on 87 octane if the ECU has been tuned to do so. It's ALL in the tune.
