rev matching while up shifting. Pls Help.

Hi,
I'm new to the site. I tried using the search function, but i couldn't find a similar posting.
I have an 06 G35 w 6MT w premium pack. I've had a MT before. My difficulty with shifting is trying to match revs while accelerating/upshifting. The RPMs just seem to "float" and stay at the RPM that i was at when I let off the gas and depressed the clutch. Or, to say it another way... The RPMs don't seem to drop like i would expect them to when letting off the gas between shifts. Sometimes it seems like the RPMs even increase (when my foot is off the gas pedal between shifts). Are there any ECU reprograms for better response? Otherwise... I love the car.
Thanks,
BT

Rev matching

I had a 03 G35 coupe 6mt with premium and experienced same issue comparing to a manual miata I have. My understanding is that the "floating" engine RPM speed have something to with emission control. It does make it harder to shift quickly and smoothly. I have a 5AT g35 sedan now.I have not driven a newer miata or honda and do not whether they do that.

I've heard of grounding kits dropping the RPM's faster. Of course, that is unproven. Check out the reviews of GroundingGear.

When you clutch in, the revs jump a little (100-200rpms) before starting to go down? or it just ..floats there for a while? doesn't sound normal. Do you clutch in all the way or not?

It's a characteristic of the drive by wire system. You can wait for the RPM to drop.. Or again grounding the car with cables like someone else says.

How about if you let off the gas an instant before putting the clutch in? I usually short shift pretty severely in normal driving and don't mind waiting a second(sometimes even double-clutching) for the revs to fall, so I don't notice the trend that you mentioned as much or generally get too bothered by it. It does seem to happen with higher RPM shifts, but usually when I'm shifting fast and hard it's a good thing that the revs don't drop too much because you can drag the RPMs into the next gear without doing an intentional powershift and get a little more snap on the shift(sure isn't great for synchros though, and obviously wears your plate out faster too... but nobody ever said driving aggressive was good for your car ).

I get the same thing, I just got used to it. One time I drove aggressive while switch gears my rpm jumped to red line and it seem as if my tranny stayed in neutral even though I went up to the next gear. it burned up the clutch pretty bad, I just stopped driving aggressive.

Ive got the same problem. This is my first drive by wire car and im not feeling it. Myself, im looking more toward something like maybe some breathing mods and the grounding kit. If that doesnt help then my next step in my mind would possibly be a lighter flywheel. If you find a easier solution to this or maybe if there is some proven evidence of the grounding kit doing something for the matter someone could chime in?

The Corvettes I sell are also drive-by-wire and behave the same way. As several have mentioned it is due to emissions reasons. I have no data to back it up but I'm not sure a grounding kit would do much since the revs not falling is intentionally programmed into the engine computers.

is this the 'rev-hang' issue that the civic si's have as well due to the DBW system?

I guess. drive by wire opens the throttle by electric pulses regulated from the accelerator. While old school method the accelerator is hooked up on a pulley system that manually opens the throttle (cable driven).

I have never had this problem on my 05' sedan, except when it cold. the idle is up around 2K until the motor warms a bit. I let mine drop about 800 rpm between shifts and you get a smooth transition to the next gear.

Was it just in 05+ that the G moved to drive by wire or do all years have this?

I don't seem to recognize this problem in my 04.
