Washing it at your house ...

I only get my car washed at the dealer (because I trust them, yay Passport) or I do it myself...

Have you been seeing the rain here lately? Its a serious PIA. I'm gonna wash it and spend all that time on it only to have it rain. I just wanted a place to go in and out. I got mine at Jim Coleman and they used to offer free washes until everyone and their mother started going so now they only do it on service visits.

I know...I haven't washed the car in 3 weeks b/c of all the rain, and cicadas, and other what nots.

I don't know of anywhere that I would trust enough to take it to. You can go to the do it yourself places (don't use the brush) but it's not 100% clean. You (at least I do) have to let the car air dry b/c there is still a thin film of dirt on the car and using a towel or something to dry the car will only swirl it around and make the towel black.

I don't have recent experience with these guys, so please use this recommendation w/ some caution. But, there's a carwash on the south side of Shady Grove road, just east of 270, that used to do an awesome job on my 90 Legend and 86 MR2. I'm closer to B'more now, so don't use them any more. Machine wash w/ the cloth brushes, hand-towel dry, interior vacuum and window cleaning.

I agree with the folks that it's better to hand-wash the car. OTOH, if the choice is between a good carwash and leaving it dirty, I've always believed that it's better to go to the carwash.

My 2 cents

You're not talking about the Flagship Car Wash in Rockville, MD are you?

Flagship is the one down on 355 I think. No - this is further north, definately on n side of Shady Grove road. It is (was? - though I'm pretty sure it's still there) east of 270, east of Gaither road, west of 355. Near restaurant/bar called Mauldoons.

Oops, my original post correct. The car wash I'm thinking of is on the SOUTH side of Shady Grove. Sorry.

If you can get a name that would be great. Yeah, the Flagship is down 355. Never heard or been to the one you're talking about however.

Re: Best place to get your car washed in Maryland??

The one on the south side of Shady Grove is like a Mr. Wash or one of the chains. I'm surprised that someone's recommending a drive thru car wash. From what I've heard about my G, between the relatively delicate paint and the thin-to-delicate paint on the wheels, I know I would be better off leaving it dirty. Except the wheels with the brake dust (I can wipe that off with just water spray and a cloth since I've waxed them before). Also, I have heard that some of the drive thru rails can scratch the wheels in addition to the usually harsh wheel cleaner that a car wash uses vs. what you and I buy, ex. P21S, Meguiar's, Zaino, etc.

I guess it depends on how long you're going to keep the car. The longer you keep it, the more likely you are to see the effects of cloth, brush, high pressure spray, etc. But it's up to you.

Well the person that recommended it said they hand dry it. I wouldnt dare take my G to an automated carwash. I guess my search continues for a place, or I guess I'll have to do it myself.
