AT boot on 05

Re: AT boot on 05
the pic of the '05 boot does not have it covering the letters, which imo makes the boot look weird. there are several people that have used a boot on their 5AT. there is always the hud in the console to let you know what gear you are in as well. but i don't use either, just as i'm sure the seasoned 6MT drivers don't look at their stick to see which notch is what gear.
i have the momo shift **** with the '04 manual boot to give it a cleaner look. i couldnt stand the look of the shifter column's thin neck.

Re: AT boot on 05
i purchased the mt boot (comes with the whole console area)from grubbs.com. it was <$20 shipped to CA. i installed it myself. i didn't get all fancy and install a ring around the boot but it's still aesthetically pleasing...at least to me and thats all that matters =P.
ill be at stillen tomorrow, or if youre ever in the san diego area i can help you out.

Re: AT boot on 05
I am very very interested in this install so could someone please tell me how to do it. Also, would I be able to still use my momo automatic shift **** or do I need to switch it?

Re: AT boot on 05
it seems everyone secures the boot differently. one person cut the console and made a perfect circle for the 6mt boot ring to fit, one person cut a circle and fabricated a speaker trim from the door, another person used a coathanger. i just left everything intact and did no cutting, because i have no skills.
basically, make sure you have the e-brake on, put the car in neutral or drive and remove the shift ****. pull up on the console area where the cupholders are (diy here. just focus on the shift **** removal)
be careful as there are various wires attached and not to scratch the "beautiful" plastanium. unhook all the wires from the console. you will need a small flathead screwdriver to get at some of the tabs (i.e. switch for the heated seats and emergency switch iirc)
take the console out of the car and disassemble the gear plate (i believe its a few philip screws and a twist of a light)
now this is where your creativity falls in. you can either take a dremel and your steady hand to the plastanium, or do it the easy way (probably the least aesthetically pleasing) and just wrap the boot over the gear plate. i made a few snips so i could impale some of the leather on the standoffs underneath the console (youll see them when you take it apart).
i apologize for the meager diy but its not terribly difficult.
