Any Auto experts here?
Any Auto experts here?
Hi,
I have a G35 coupe auto and I have some questions:
1) First, are you supposed to floor the gas pedal on a AT car to launch?
2) When I do this the rpm goes up real slow until about 3k and then suddenly starts accelerating. It takes about 2 seconds or more to reach the 3k mark and so the car doesn't seem fast at all. It also seems like there is something wrong with the car, because the rpm goes up so slow in the beggining and then jumps.
3) Is flooring the gas pedal bad?
4) Are you supposed to gradually press the gas pedal?
5) Some people say that its the ECU, is this correct? Then how do you reset a 04 by the gas pedal method?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Any Auto experts here?
Using my G Tech, I got very similar results simply taking my foot off the gas and slamming it. Holding the tach at 2100 then releasing the brake caused enough wheel spin to put me at the 15 second mark on the QM. Holding it at 1800 then releasing the brake (and flooring it) put me about a 1/10 of a second faster than just flooring it without revving first but that could have easily been within a natural margin of error anyway.
Flooring it is not necessarily "bad" for anything, but in theory, the more abuse your car the less long it will stay healthy. But I believe the health has more to do with how you maintain your vehicle rather than how often you floor it. Also, I feel the RPMs have more to do with wear than how fast you get to that higher RPM.
Of course, accelerating will wear your tires faster, but what the heck, they wear in 18 months anyway, so what's another 2 weeks?
Your RPM issue could be the VDC slowing you down. Try it with VDC on and off and see if you notice a difference.
I reset the ECU with the gas pedal method, but that didn't effect anything at wide open throttle. It only effected my shift points when driving normally. Although according to Gurgen and some others, resetting it will have effects on your long term fuel maps. His explanation seemed very reasoned and informed to me.

Re: Any Auto experts here?
i have tried it with vdc off since day one. i'll explain it more clearly. i get to a red light. i turn the vdc off and switch over to manual mode. when the light turns green and i floor the gas pedal, the car launches kinda slow and the rpm slowly creeps up to about 3k. then suddenly i hear the engine going krazy and the rpm suddenly jumps to 4k in less than a second. my problem is with how the AT launches. im not asking if it should launch like a 6MT, but i dont think it should launch so slow in the beginning. also when i floor it on the highway from like 45-50mph, the rpm does the same thing. unless i floor it the car wont really go fast and the rpm creeps up slow. are AT supposed to be like this? I mean the car wont go fast unless i floor it. and also the rpm is wierd, because it wont go up as i press the gas pedal. any help would be appreciated.
Re: Any Auto experts here?
same here with my coupe also seems like it's not responsive from a dead stop or like it's delayed till i hit 3k. or like there are only 2 setting fast and slow .Ive always speculated this is caused by the "throtle by wire" and a way maybe to safe guard the AT tranny ??
There have been numerous post on this subject but no real answers.
I plan on doing the TS ecu upgrade soon, so i hoping it might solve this issue , if not i'am going to seriously consider getting an 05 with MT.

niko14,
I think your explanation is reasonable. I get the same kind of response below 3K with my 5AT. I don't like to torque break because it may cause long-term damage to the transmission.
Ximer,
Autos are naturally slow reacting to abrupt mashing of the gas pedal. Our G is no different. My coupe’s manual mode is very quick reacting and I like to use it the majority of the time.
If I find a full 1/4 mile track close to my home I'll see if my times are close to others here (~15.0s).
Take care,

Re: Any Auto experts here?
I could be you need to reset your:
Throttle pedal to neutral
Your throttle body ?
Both of these resets are in the DIY.
But yes, this is normal to some extent. But your description seems to be exagerated past what may be normal. Do the resets, it couldn't hurt.
I agree the torque braking is bad. I concluded it didn't really benefit anyway, so why do it.
