OMG my car is a freak from the factory!!!!!
Today I went to stillen day and I got my car dynoed and it put down 257.1 as the max HP. I was amazed. I have nothing but the Stillen Hi Flow and the Z-tube on my car as far as performance mods go. Some of the guys there couldnot get higher than 250 with pullies exhaust intake etc... I think my SCGOA sticker added like 10HP though

Wow, that's awesome. I'm assuming I should multiply the 257.1 by 1.15 (15% loss of power at the drivetrain) to get crank hp, right? That comes out to 295hp, pretty impressive !!!

Isn't 295hp kinda low for that much rwhp?
I think I've seen stock cars putting down as much as 230rwhp. Assuming they had 280 at the crank, that's a multiplier of 1.22 which would make his crank hp closer to 314hp which is even MORE impressive!

Re: OMG my car is a freak from the factory!!!!!
No dude, you've got it the other way around. Crank hp delivers the highest horsepower rating because it's in neutral...the engine is not under load. rwhp is after the power goes through the drivetrain and horsepower suffers, which is called drivetrain loss. The average "drivetrain loss" is 15%, but some cars are better worse. So for example, the G35C has 280hp, which is the horsepower at the crank (and the horsepower that all manufacturers advertise at). So you take that number and multiple it by 0.15 which equals 42 (horsepower). So you have a drivetrain loss of 42 horsepower, so you take 280hp - 42hp = 238hp, which is your rwhp. RobG35 was dynoed at 257.1hp (which is almost 296hp at the crank) ...certainly a significant improvement !!

...or you could just multiply 280 x .85 and get there one step faster But yes- freak from the factory. Impressive numbers, man

The G35 loses more than 15% power. Isn't the average RWHP about 233 or so... Which equates to about 83% HP transferred from the crank. Which would be the reason that you might think his BHP numbers should be more. 257rwhp. WOW.

Re: OMG my car is a freak from the factory!!!!!
Mr. E, we're saying the same thing.
I just figured that the driveline LOSS is probably closer to 18% (based on a stock car's numbers). To get back to the original number I had to ADD 22%. I don't add 18% of 257 (because that's LESS than 18% of the original number).
For instance a 15% loss requires you to add 17.5% to get back to the original number. If the car had 295hp at the crank and had a 15% LOSS the rwhp would only be 250.75
(295 minus 15% driveline loss = 295*.85= 250.75rwhp)
If the driveline loss is 15% his hp should really be 302 at the crank:
302*.85 = 257
To get back to the crank hp you needed to add 17.5%:
257*1.175=302

Just to make this a little easier... Typically you know the car is rated at 280 bhp and you know you dynoed 257.1 rwhp. What you really need is a stock G35 (same tranny type) to dyno on the SAME day on the SAME dyno and take their measurement of "rwhp" and determine whether or not you actually have a 15% drive train loss or more.
To turn the dyno horsepower number back into crank horsepower do the following...
257.1 / (1 - 0.15) = 302.5 bhp
thus a 15% loss due to the drive train would be...
302.5 - (302.5 * 0.15) = 257.1 rwhp
Without the stock car for comparison I keep thinking something is wrong. 15% drive train on our cars is a bit low (especially since this engine and transmission is used on multiple platforms and was not designed solely for the G35), this would only INCREASE YOUR horsepower at the crank and from the numbers you've posted I can only say that either you're a VERY lucky person, or something is a little off. None the less, I'd be happy with those numbers if I were you, congratulations! .
FYI, with an 18% loss you'd be at 313.6 bhp which seems a bit high. That would be a 33.6 hp gain on a NA platform just from a "Stillen High Flow" and a "Z-Tube".
This leaves me asking... What exactly is a "Stillen High Flow" and where can I get one?
301-bhp!!! ...and growing!

Thanks for the comments guys. The car was dynoed in 5th gear.
And Yes CB is the fastest color.

Re: OMG my car is a freak from the factory!!!!!
I hit the rev limiter at 800 miles. I hit redline regularly at 400+ miles and I think thats the reason my car puts these kinds of numbers down.
