I've read all the info for the Oil Consumption issue - and it's at the dealership being diagnosed.
My question is simple:
I have to bring the car in every 1000 or 1500km to check the oil level. What is preventing me from draining a bit out, right before I go in for the check? Are they doing something electronically that I can't think of to monitor this consumption?
The purpose of my question is that if I have oil burning, which is already agreed upon by the dealership, if it isnt ENOUGH oil that's burning, and I still want a new engine, can I not just drain a bit out?
BTW - It's an 04 coupe with extended warranty.
Thanks in advance.

....to prevent any hanky panky and dishonesty exactly described here by what owners might try....wow lol.
They only marked my drain plug. Depends on Dealer.

some dealers (mine included) tie down the dipstick with zip ties and they have told me that they "check" the drain plug so i assume they mark it somehow
as for the oil fill cap, i have no idea how they could check for tampering there.... i really dont think they could

Good point. He can just tip the car upside down and drain a bit out of there.Originally Posted by rob40wilson03

starting with my Datsun BRE 510 thru todays G35C and I've NEVER
used a drop of oil between changes. When you consider I put 125K miles on
the clock on 3 of them that's not too shabby....I must have owned the other
half!
