Did the dealership mess up?
Did the dealership mess up?
So, unfortunatly I got a screw in my back driver's side tire. However, that's not the reason for the post.
The reason for the post is that I was checking the air pressure on my tires after I patched up the small hole and saw that for some reason, all of my tires had more than 50 psi of air in them. I thought that sounded wierd so I looked at the door and saw its supposed to have 35 psi. I've had the car for about 4 months and this is the first time I checked the pressure. Wondering if the dealership really messed up on this one, because I could have blown my tires really badly.
Has anyone had this happen to them or know why the tire might have been so overly inflated?
Thanks

Re: Did the dealership mess up?
They're shipped overinflated like that to prevent flat spotting, so yes, your dealer screwed up by not adjusting the pressures to 35 (cold), but so did you for not checking b4 this. It's recommended to check tires b4 long trips and weekly.
You'll want to do this for optimum handling as well as gas mileage.
Not only could you have blown a tire, but handling and traction must have been terrible at that pressure, and traction control must have kicked in a lot.

I had the same thing happen right when I bought my car. Drove around for 1200 miles on over inflated tires and it wore the hell out of my Eagle RS-As. I had to replace them at 20,000 miles.

When I took my car in last time, I had a few things done like chin spoiler add-on, replace tail light, and a alignment. I asked the guy to adjust my tire pressure to exactly 35 psi, and when I came home and checked the tire pressure, they didnt do a thing.
Re: Did the dealership mess up?
If you do a lot of freeway driving, you can improve your gas mileage by bumping up the pressure a little. I'm not sure how much this helps with lo-pro tires though.

My G was pulling to the right and they couldn't find anything wrong and I just checked the tire pressure and my driver side front was 40 psi and the right 35. The pulling went away big time. Wierd.

Overinflated tires (they come off the truck that way) is one of the commonest dealer-prep errors there is. ALWAYS check tire pressures IMMEDIATELY on a new car delivery. At least half the time it will be sky-high. It was one of the things that impressed me with my experience with Ramsey Infiniti in NJ. The tires were spot-on at 35 PSI.
My brother drove around for months on 45 PSI, rock-hard riding tires on his new Audi A6 before I rode in the car and questioned the buckboard ride....

Re: Did the dealership mess up?
The recommended inflation for the 17" tires is 30 psi but the dealer keeps inflating them to over 35 psi. Every time I get my car serviced, I have to let 5 pounds of air out of my tires.
