detailing

I went to the infiniti dealership yesterday and i got a look at the services menu.

it was 139.99 for exterior detailing. -25.00 for first time customers.
199.99 for interior and exterior detailing..

I've got a few paint chips on the drivers side door and a few scratches on the back bumper. The salesman claimed that these scratches would be taken care of during the detailing service.

Does anyone have any experience with this service? and is it worth it?

I'm in san jose so if anyone knows of any service that's better/cheaper, please feel free to respond.

I'm sure there's some NorCal folks who know of a good detailer near you.

If not, just ask for some before & afters of other vehicles that they've done.

Also, you might want to take a look at the Care & Detailing section of this site.

DIY Detailing....

Don't you guys in NorCal have the GM garage? From what I've seen they'd be
happy to give you a hand. All you need is touch up paint, cleaner wax and a
few micro towels....going to the dealership unless required isn't a good idea
not to mention expensive!

i would just take it to a local car wash place and use a coupon. I wouldnt let the dealer do my detail, cause they probably have some young punks detail the cars.

car wash has hard working mexicans.. sometimes

or take it to a coin wash place and detail yourself afterwards.

I see, i dont have a garage either and a buffer. But I got all the the cleaning supplies....You could go to a nice gas station that has a vacum and detail it there..sometimes its nice to have someone do it for you though

I would personally take it to a local detailer rather than the dealership. Must be peeps in your area who have the tools, know what they're doing, and will do a better job for a better (i.e. cash) price.

1. NEVER take it to the dealer for a detail. Especially at that price. You will get a nice and shiny car for 2 weeks, but then all the fillers they used cover up the scratches and swirls will be gone and you will be left with a worse looking car than before you got it detailed.

2. I wouldn't reccomend detailing yourself unless you want to do it on a consistent basis as it is very expensive to get into. Getting a cheap PorterCable 7424, polish, pads, clay, and wax is gonna end up being anywhere from 300-500 depending on the products you buy, and probably isn't going to look as good as a pro detailer with a rotary.

3. Get a local detailer who knows what they are doing. It might be more expensive (around 250) but they will do an astronomically better job. Put up a post on Autopia.org and Detailingbliss.com and they will get you the highest quality detailer in your area.

If you have any questions, pm me.

EDIT: Don't pay for an interior detail. Interior is very easy to do. I would say tell them not to touch the interior unless they have a deep cleaning steam/excavator that will throughly clean your carpet, which isn't really that nessacary. I would say do the interior yourself, it will cost you around $10 to DIY. Again, PM me if you want more details.

I work at a dealership and I've never heard of chips and scratches being fixed during a detail. Most dealers have an outside vendor that comes in to fix those at an additional cost. Also, I would take my car to a detail shop before I paid a dealer to do it. The products dealers use are the cheapest you can imagine and do not last at all.

Go to the care & detailing section, there is a sticky about how paint chips/scratches are fixed and also, look at some of the details FMINUS and Prsdentaildetail have done. They are more expensive, but it shows you what a quality detail looks like. They have before and after shots.
