final drive question!

here are my goals...

be quicker than let's say a 335i

and a mazdaspeed 3...

i'm pretty much full bolt-ons besides headers....

i'm looking at my next mod which would either be final drive, or tune...

in my 04 g35 coupe which final drive would i most benefit from?

i should add that i'm not in a world of worry of top speed loss... however i don't wanna max out at 100mph....

and are there supporting parts that must be also purchased and installed when installing a final drive? thanks

your answer is in that thread. I would say go with the 4.083, you wont max out at 100 mph...more like 160. But then our car is restricted to 155 mph anyways. The 2 gears your going to have to decide between are the 3.9 or the 4.083. There really isnt significant difference between the two as far as performance goes but the 4.083 is cheaper b/c it is a OEM part out of a nissan titan.

The 3.9 will result in 10% faster acceleration through every gear where the 4.083 will get you 15% faster (than stock).

Either one of these gears will make you top out much faster and a ecu reflash is recommended to raise your rev limiter. You should get the gear and tune as well IMO. PM user "Lolly Baggins" for more info on how his car rides, he has the 4.083 gear.

I didn't know Lolly had 4.083 gears. I'll have to ask him how he likes them

List all the bolt ons that u have and it might be easier for us to point u to the right direction.
I would leave the final drive at last. Since u have ~3.6 final drive already (with 6MT), I would go and went with the tune which put me neck and neck with the 335. Doing the final drive after should give u the edge especially when u get to high speeds. ~4.1 final drive won't diminish ur top speed, U should easily hit 160 without a problem.

The HR motor is only in the newer 350z and newer G35 sedan. 2007+ i think.

I think you are referring to the rev-up engine. and yes the rev-up has higher redline at 7k but still isnt that much of a difference when considering what final drive gear to get.

I thought the HR motor was in the 370z and g37?

I have a 07 G and I was under the assumption it was a DE rev up.

yes you do have a DE rev-up. and the 370z and g37 have the VQ37HR.

there is a VQ35HR in the 07+ 350z and 07 G35 sedan only. no HR love for the G coupe.
