Question Need Your Council, Advice, Wisdom...Used G Coupe Purchase

Hey all,

I have been a lurker and member on the site for some time. I have learned a lot from all of you, but I am still not a G owner. However, it looks like my time to join the ranks of happy, G owning, mod crazy, fun lovers is here!

I have been on the hunt for some time now. Unfortunately, I have not had much luck in the marketplace here, but I did manage to find a car near me that seems to fit what I want.

2005 Coupe 6MT - Sport, Premium, Navigation, Aero, 30,000mi
Asking Price = 26,000

This price seems a little high to me, what do you think?

Additional Questions:
- Are there any really marked differences between the 2005's and the 2006-2007 models, other than the obvious, things like projectors, taillights, etc. Would I be better off looking for an 06 or 07?

Gonna go drive this car in a few days, then I will be hooked I'm sure, so any advice is welcome and appreciated before then.

Well, it just makes sense that if you look for an older model, 03-04 then the price will be lower but also, the mileage will be higher.

For $26,000 for a 2005 with 30,000mi is quite high in my opinion, regardless of immaculate condition.

I purchased my 2006 6MT, Sport, Premium for $24,900 with 24,000mi back in June 2008. Granted it didn't have the Navigation as the one you're referencing does but that is easily had with the great DIYs here on this site.

To me, 2005-2007 would pretty much be the same except for the oil consumption issues on the 05-early 07 model G35 6MTs.

And, if distance is not a problem, definately check out the Cars for Sale here on g35driver.

I remember seeing some GREAT deals.

Personally, if I could have done it all over, I would of picked up a nicely modded 2004 G35 6MT coupe with aero, BBS wheels and brembos, *drool* but hey, I'm not complaining, see below

If you can swing 25K for a coupe, find a low mileage 6MT. with both premium and sport package. Search www.autotrader.com and maybe be patient. It'll be more than worth it. Can't say wish I would have waited because sure have enjoyed my car. Problem is our cars have taken a nose-dive in prices druing the last year. GL with the hunting

that price is way high! You could probably get an 06 with that price tag.

I don't think the cars for sale on here are very good deals...there are better deals to be found on ebay, autotrader, cars.com, etc.

I bought my 07 5AT with 15k on it with every option but RWS for $24,700...from a dealer in AZ.

Thanks for the reply. You are correct that there are a couple nice deals here on the marketplace. Currently an IP coupe and an OB with rims in Arizona.

Part of the decision here is color I guess. I really want blue slate.

Can you clarify about the oil consumption? I thought that was 05 only? If a dealer has records that the car has been tested and passed should there be any further concern or could one be confident that the motor is Ok for the long haul?

Thanks for the pic. Nice ride

Patience is indeed a virtue. I am going to try my best to hold out for the right buy. Thanks.

That's kinda what I was thinking...

You think I can swing a deal maybe a couple grand less and some 06 projectors?

Thanks

I guess the private seller is always looking for a little more. There are definitely good deals on those sites, and trust me I have been looking. Many of the cars would require me to buy sight unseen and pay shipping as well. That to me makes them less of a good deal.

Thanks for your input! I will be looking for a deal like you got! Sounds great! Cheers

I've seen 05-06 6mt's with around 30,00 miles on them for roughly 22k, asking for 26, in my opinion is a bit high, and these prices were at the stealership and even privately being sold here in Chicago.

Of course now with it being snow I cannot tell you the condition I saw them in but heck, even on Yahoo Autos and the like, I've only seen a few 05-06 6mts go for 25k with 30,000 miles on the odometer.

That price is way too high. Could probably get an 07 for that much.

BTW, projectors are very easy to add to the car. You can find them from anywhere from 100-550 per pair.

For yet another point of reference I got my 05 DG Coupe 6MT w/ premium, aero, sport w/ 50K for $22,500 back in August. This was from a dealership in Atlanta, so it's also an Infiniti certified pre-owned which is a nice touch when it comes to warranty and service and I also got a good interest rate as I needed financing. So, $22.5K is a little bit high for now, but back in August was before priced nose dived w/ the economy, and the warranty adds some price too and my old car died, so I NEEDED a car.

My opinion is that seems a little high. If it's from a dealer, you can get them to come down, no doubt. But on the end, it comes down to you, if you're set on blue slate, you may pay more as that's hard to find.

Thanks a bunch for chiming in guys! I really appreciate it.

Update: The advertised price on the car has been dropped to 23,990

Phecke, I agree that the Infiniti certified pre-owned is nice. The car I am looking at is a certified car. :-)

Gonna go test drive her today. I will let you all know how it goes. Wish me luck...

Make sure you check out the spark plug tube seals before powertrain warranty is up:

Does anyone know how to post youtube videos so that they show up as a playable video as opposed to a link like above?

^^^ What was the explanation for the problem?

Look for "embed" video, should be right under your name and the video description. Copy that text and paste it in, much like you would with a picture.

Thanks
