3-Seat Rear Bench Conversion for Coupe...?
Anyone know if there is some sort of aftermarket seat cushion adapter, insert, or anything of such kind to "drop into" the rear seat center compartment/console area in the backseat of a coupe and convert the two seater capacity of the bench to at least a 1 1/2 per say?
Though I know it would not be a comfortable adaptation as per say an actual seat, not to mention illegal probably since no seat belt would be available for this converted seating area, nevertheless my thought is for emergency or urgent situations only.
For example yesterday my friends car broke down at a local mall and he called me to give him a 5 mile distance lift. Hardship there was he had his 3 children with him. Needless to say, it would have been a tad bit more comfortable for the child sitting in the middle to have sat on some sort of stable padded cushion than per say on the hard plastic edges of that compartment/console. And true, you could throw a jacket or other cloth like material over that hump to eliviate some of the uncomfortableness, which I did, but I would rather have something looking nice and clean, OEM style.
Anyone know of anything like this or where to get it?
Thanks

There probably isn't something custom made out there selling in quantity. I never tried it but is the center console in the backseat easily removed? That said you could try yourself to fab up something.
Unfortunately, there's probably no easy and OEM style look you'll be able to create unless you find some very similar leather and do some nice sewing.
Again, I personally haven't seen anything posted up on this site in regard sto 3-seat rear conversions. The only conversions are the car-show types that most of the time, remove the back seats completely and build a non-fabric enclosure for speakers, amps, etc.

^^^ your correct. rugratcoupe did that. he removed the center area and had a shop made a cusion to put in its place. he also purchased lap belts for the center too. ill look for the link. but anycase your going to have to have a shop match the leather and make up the isze for the cusions.

I hear what you're saying Tran03 with regards to removing the center console area. Im sure it couldnt be that hard once you take off the bottom of the seat and flip it over. Though I definitely like the "secret" compartment most people who never set foot in the back seat ever know about. Besides, thats where I keep my .38 Snub-Nose... loaded!!!
If I could just find a cushion adapter for it (since I am lousy at fabricating stuff up on my own), then the "secret" compartment could still remain a secret and maybe even better hid.
