Oil Newb
Ok so i checked my oil and need some advice.
Type- 5w30 Full Synthetic - Mobile 1
Measure- Half point between low and High
Color- Tinge of yellow/ & black
Miles on oil- 4100
So my brother has 10w30 Synthetic Mobile 1 oil for his supra, and im thinking of just taking a little. Is this ok since im running 5w syn ? and hes running syn ?

I run the same oil, just checked yesterday, and the dip looked exact same as you at 3600mi.
It's been consistently at this level prior to all my oil changes, whether I baby her for the previous miles or drive the shart out of here (I've been driving hard recently...much more fun).
I'm thinking of switching to Amsoil next change and will see if she uses less. Not worried one iota though.

Yes... this detail is often overlooked by inexperienced shade-tree mechanics. Good motor oil should taste like sulfuric acid. If it doesn't.... and it instead tastes like Draino, then it's time for an oil change. You may need to sample one or both of those products if you're unfamiliar with their taste.
For real though.. you should do or get an oil change done on your car if it's at 4100 miles and this is your first time dealing with oil on teh car. You can't really go by the color of the oil to tell what kind of shape it's in.
