Exclamation burning smell in cabin while stopped... please help?!

My 2004 G35 coupe with 58K has a slight burning rubber smell after driving normally (not aggressively). The smell comes inside the cabin and seems to be coming through the vents, only when the heat is on, and the car is stopped or at a light. I've seen many posts on this but no one actually every posts a concrete determination as to what is causing the problem...

does anyone know why this happens???

Seems to be normal in the winter, especially if the roads are snowy and salted, VDC's been at work, etc. I, along with a few other members, have this same thing happen. Took it to the dealer a couple years about this and they said there was nothing wrong with the car.

welcome to the club man, seems to be the 'norm' with our cars. Ive taken mine to the dealer along with other members, and they never find anything wrong. Heres a thread I started a while ago.

Check your cats. Plastic baggy got my driver side cat :/ Same deal. Only smelled when stopped, but i imagine that's a combination of obviously not being in motion where the smell is wafting away/air coming in is from the front and also the fact you're concentrating on driving rather than the smell.

I have this problem too. Close to what matches might smell like if they were extra potent. This started recently... last thing I did to the car was brake pad change. And the reservoir overflowed [brake fluid]. I cant imagine that getting onto anything hot though. idk!

Check for hamburger buns on your muffler.

JK, but it happened on my old stealth. I was driving and thought for sure something on my car was catching fire. Pulled over, sniffed the car down, and tracked it to my muffler. Wedged inbetween the exhaust tips and my bumper were 2 halfs of an entire hamburger bun, burnt to a crisp.
