Is my mechanic crazy?

I went to a mehcanic, different on than my usual one, to ask if they could instal the borla exhaust i was planning to buy and i alsos said i had a z tube/pop charger and a spacer for them to do and he said he'll enstall it but then he told me if i would care about all the tickets i was going to get. And then he said that the exhaust was going to be illegal (i live in CA). I'm really unsure of why he would say this because i'm almost posotive that its not illegal.

In Cali part of smog check is visual inspection of smog related components under the hood, etc. Unfortunately after market intakes fail visual (easy to change during smog check) and so to plenum spacers. Though I doubt the majority of smog techs will notice the spacer, Im going to leave mine in. In my 300zx I have adjustable cams (also illegal in Cali) so I just put the timing belt cover back on to cover them up during smog). Its all about what the tech can see, also make certain timing is correct in this situation. After market HFC's will also fail visual as a side note. (again if the tech can even tell the difference) mine could not.

Union of California Socialist Republics.

No offense, but my hat is off to you poor souls who put up with living in such a insane, socialist state.

I love california... but yes u are correct.. But the laws and rules are soooo dumb.. 1 good thing about kansas is that they don't care what u do as long as u pay for registration! Lol but ill suck it up and move back to cali.. Cuz the problems are worth it.....IN And Out? Need I say more.. ? Also does anyone know if test pipes will throw it off?

Long story short. Anything from air intake to cats without carb sticker is illegal. With sticker is legal in CA. JWT pop chrgr has carb certification btw.

Only way to not be hassled by cat-back exhaust is to get fix-it ticket first, go to state rep, they db test it, if passes you get sticker saying it's legal.

Any vehicle without cats from 1974 on is illegal.
Test pipes = visual inspection as a no brainer whether it's legal or not.

Ahhh....sunny California lol
