Does your 2nd gear make a clunk noise? like say a 1-2 shift..
it's like a weird clunking noise..is this normal?

Re: 6mt owners...

I have the clunk going in second. It doesn't clunk every time though. The tranny seems to have good days and bad days. Some days it's like butta and other days it's notchy as hell.

Ditto....same for mine. Just hit 10K mi.
I am going to change the trans fluid and see if it helps.

Re: 6mt owners...

yeah, i get klunks and notchiness...all the 350z guys complain about it too, so i guess its normal. I'm also going to see about getting the fluid changed. I have 14k miles....but if i hear a grind it's gonna be ON!

Not Me! No clunk here. My coupe is a December 02 build, and my shifter has been silky smooth since day one.

Re: 6mt owners...

Same problems i had and after I got use to.. it seem to be smoother shifting after awhile... I guess it the warm that made the shifter smoother. In cold weather, the shifter gets really hard to shift from 1 to 2nd gear. To be honest, I'm loving it!! I tried one of my best friend's Honda Prelude 5 MT and I didn't like it much because it is tooo smooth... it feels like a girl's car. Anyway, don't worry about the Shifting from 1 to 2nd, get use to it and you'll get to the point.

Cheers!

Re: 6mt owners...

count me in for notchy shifting. again, only for the 1-2 shift.

the perfect 1-2 shift is possible. go from first to neutral for a split second and then shift to second and things will be fairly smooth.

maybe something is mis-aligned?

oh wells, glad i'm not the only one

Re: 6mt owners...

I also have this problem! Some good days and some bad ones. But I don't think its dependent on weather. I'm out in socal so its always pretty warm but there are days when it runs perfectly during my morning drive and there are other days when I have the shifting problem on my way home from work.

I personally wish something could be down. As some mentioned, I heard changing the transmission fluid helped others so maybe I'll try that...

As drsifu1 mentioned, if you wait a split second before shifting into 2nd, it helps but its hard for me to shift that way. Its kinda not natural. I push the clutch in and wait a second so the rpm can drop to a decent level....

Re: 6mt owners...

My first transmission would basically lock out of second gear. My current transmission clunks, grinds, snags, and shifts butter smooth. It so mother*&*&* schizophrenic and driving me crazy. Every time I shift it's like a roll of the dice Speaking of this topic could someone pretty please w/sugar on top respond to my question here differing gaps at shifter

No clunks from 1-2nd, but I only have 250km. Did it clunk from day one, or did it start happening recently?

Re: 6mt owners...

Mine was perfect......until right at 10K miles.
And I "got used to it" the 1st week....I've been driving manuals for 30+ years.
