What just happened?
Ok here is the story. I bought my G with 55k miles. The tranny did the usual hard shift in 2nd gear, so I replaced the tranny fluid with redline fluid. Problem solved. Yesterday I had the JWT clutch and flywheel combo installed. Installer drained redline fluid and put in Motul fluid. Now my G absolutely will not go into 5th gear (unless I double clutch and force it). Is this from the Motul fluid or did they put tranny in wrong? This is my first post but I'm fairly pissed and would love to know if any of ya'll have ever had this problem.
Go back and have them fill the trans properly, make sure they cycle through the gears and check the fluid levels. Bring the factory service manual with you if you must.
You should only use Nissan JMatic trans fluid!

Dude he has a 6mt not a 5at.
The redline fluid came highly recommended on this forum. I used it and it solved all of the hard/notchy shifting problems that everyone complains about. I was thrilled. I was sure that the Motul fluid would work well too so rather than buying more redline I told them just use whatever they would recommend (I figured at $57 dollars for 3 qts it had to be good). Needless to say it sucks in a 6mt. Guess I'll have to go drain it, pay $30 more and put fresh redline in. I don't know about the J-Matic but like I said, from experience the redline works great.
did you use straigh Redline MT-90 or did you mix 1/2 MT-90 with 1/2 MTL? I just did my transmission fluid with all MT-90 and I'm still getting a slight 1-2 grind. It goes away once the tranny is warmed up though.
As far as fifth gear goes, I would change back to Redline and see if that helps. Also, bleed your clutch fluid and refill as necessary.
As stated already, J-matic is for AT's only, stay away from it.

I used straight MT-90. Mine is always a little stiff from 1st to 2nd when its cold, but after about 5 minutes its shifts like butter. Not right now of course. Thanks for the advice.

Little update. I was driving the G last night. I was trying to figure out a way to make it shift easier and just going through the gears. When I got to 5th, rather than shifting all the way to the right and then up into 5th (like usual), I went almost all the way to the right (about 1/16" from the wall) and it slid right in to 5th. It shifts like a dream every time now. I guess the tranny may have shifted a hair. Problem solved. Thanks for everyone's input.
There's a gate adjustment on the shifter that limits travel into the 5th/6th position when it is not being depressed to go into reverse. If the trans was removed and replaced my guess is that it needs to be adjusted. Basically, it doesn't allow the shifter to go as far to the right when you come out of 4th. Easy adjustment from inside the car once you remove the boots (leather and the rubber one below it).
