Fuel Economy
Re: Fuel Economy
I also find this car very hard on gas. I had a 400hp GrandPrix GTP before this and I was averaging much better numbers. I could get up to 32-34MPG on the highway, about 22-24MPG average. And that was driving her quite hard. I hope the G35 will improve over time.
Re: Fuel Economy
I get 12 in town and 22 on the hwy. Terrible! And I baby it most of the time.

Re: Fuel Economy
im getting 24-25 mpg right now @80mph usually. i drive 90% highway to and from work. 9k miles. mobil one, k&n dropin, and tires @37psi. Just for fun I set the cruise at 70 and reset the nav and it was showing 29mpg. My RX-8 (which should officially be considered a lemon this week) was only getting 15 mpg on the highway. Autoweek is only getting 13 with theirs. when i can get 400-450 miles out of a tank instead of 220-240, i think i am driving a economy car. My dads C5 will get better gas mileage though.

My '91 300ZX with 157,000 miles gets 18 mpg city and 29 highway (if I turn off the A/C).
I will be buying a G35 Coupe later this year and I'm not worried about the fuel consumption at all. If you want fuel economy, buy a different car!

Re: Fuel Economy
i dont think you should be getting THAT low (12-15 mpg). Like someone has replied, the G has a few gallons left after the empty light goes on. If you do not account for those 3 or 4 gallons, then your mpg will be extremely low (like 12-15). Next time you go to the pump, see when the pump stops and how many gallons you have filled. Subtract that from 20 and you will get the unaccounted fuel you did not average in to get your mpg.

Re: Fuel Economy
I drive mostly freeway to work, about 75-80 mph when there's no traffic but "stop and go" for half of the time. I get about 350 miles when the warning light comes up. Went straight to gas station and end up filling 16 gallons of gas, which by the way costs me $45, damn it.
Re: Fuel Economy
I think this car is really sensative to the the type of driving you do. I get only between 14-17 mpg driving in LA traffic. I've noticed that if any long non-stop freeway driving is mixed in, the number goes up fast. So those getting 20+mpg probably do not live in areas with heavy traffic, etc.
However, 14-17 is pretty poor for a 6 cylinder under any conditions. My BMW 540 (V8) gets a minimum of 18 mpg.
